YSU using upgrades to lure recruits

ParlayHenry, what makes you think that without athletics, we can become a "far superior academic institution?" The fact of the matter is Notre Dame, Stanford, Duke, every Ivy League school, etc. has DIVISION 1 college athletics. It further proves the point that great academic schools can have outstanding athletic programs. As far as I am concerned, athletics are a terrific marketing tool and the front-door to many universities.

Kudos to Ron Strollo for the amazing athletic facility improvements we have seen over the past decade. The WATTS, the new 5th Avenue Athletic Complex, and the numerous improvements to Stambaugh Stadium and Beeghly Center are to this man's credit and his vision. For the athletic budget we have, we get a lot of bang for our buck. Our companions in the MAC have athletic budgets 2-2.5x that of YSU, but our facilities are every bit as good as theirs!

Go YSU!

Man who impersonated brother pleads innocent

Clearly your headline to this story is misleading and leads you to believe Dale impersonated Darrell. I recommend you change it because it is wrong.

Dale, the YSU football player, did not impersonate anyone.

Why doesn’t YSU play MAC football teams?

TaxMe, Kent used a Colin Reardon TD pass late in the 4th quarter to squeak by FCS Liberty on Thursday 17-10. Kent had one great season in 20 years and they look to be back to their mediocre form.

Austintown trustees announce new racino proposal

Scary what can happen when power gets to a persons head. Sammarone... ENOUGH with this nonsense!

Local cooperation lauded at launch of Austintown's racino

Bob Hagan taking credit for this when we heard nothing out of his mouth the past 2 years regarding this is quite humorous. Shouldn't he be worried about pleasing Ohio's potheads?

Mooney, Ursuline baseball teams advance

Badeepster, do you realize if the privates had their own tournament, they'd likely form their own athletic association and legalize recruitment efforts in Ohio, and the public schools and OHSAA would have ABSOLUTELY NO SAY about it. Boy that would backfire on you Catholic School haters!

Mooney, Ursuline baseball teams advance

Ursuline's baseball program (the one you purchase at games) lists the grade school of every single player on the roster. I believe all but 2 on Ursuline's roster went to local Catholic schools. One went to Liberty, another to Mathews.

Ursuline has been tough the past few years. Ever think the program itself, which has been one of the best in the region for the past few decades, just reloaded yet again?

Study says area has more fliers than previously thought

You do realize that the money you speak of from the counties comes from the bed tax? Only the people that stay in hotels in Mahoning and Trumbull County pay that tax. It does not come from County property taxes or anything of that sort.

Thus, a vast majority of that bed tax funding comes from travelers staying in our area, not people like you and me.

Study says area has more fliers than previously thought

The black hole as you call it saw 77,000 passengers travel through it last year, the most since the late 90s. Parking, restaurant, vending, and car rental revenue all increased as well. Allegiant continues to grow here in Youngstown as well.

Things are far from the bleak picture you portray of the airport.

Expect Kasich’s State of State this week to sound like stump speech for 2014

Nothing wrong with him touting his record which trumps the last two governors combined in just 2.5 years.
