Tressel makes first comment after accepting YSU job

Wow:

"@FootballScoop: Per source, Tressel chose the YSU job…was offered the same position at Akron. http://FootballScoop.com/the-scoop"

"@FootballScoop: @NiuHuskieJohn @HustleBelt “Job was his if he wanted it” is how source worded it. Same source who told us yesterday that today he’d get YSU"

This is the same website that announced yesterday afternoon that YSU hired Tressel.

UPDATED | Akron names Scarborough as 16th university president

Didn't take long for the haters to come back out of the woodwork and rip on YSU.

SeriousLee, Apparently the unions, representing the "trained professionals" of YSU, believe he is the right candidate at this moment in time; being that they endorsed him yesterday.

Our "trained professionals" are every bit as qualified as those at the University of Akron.

Is Jim Tressel qualified to be YSU president?

YSUForever, enough of your nonsense. John Kasich is not going to close YSU.

I do not know where on earth you get that wild idea, but it is ridiculous. Nothing he has done should lead anyone to believing that silly, radical, close-minded opinion that you continue to express on here.

I am in full support of Jim Tressel getting the job, but quit making a fool out of yourself with this nonsense that John Kasich wants to close YSU. Governor Kasich is doing a great job for our state and if he wants to allocate state higher educational funding based on graduation rates, then by God YSU better adjust and adapt to the new funding formula. I would much rather have my tax dollars going to schools that graduate more of our future leaders, than schools that get X number of students who start, only to see Y number of students graduate.

Graduation rates at YSU are a problem and is something the next President must address.

Ohio's jobless rate drops to 6.1 pct. in March

Governor Kasich is doing a great job as Governor. After a miserable decade of failed leadership with Taft and Strickland, he has certainly turned our state's fortunes around.

Kasich 2014!

Jim Tressel seeks YSU presidency

Boardman Jeff, that makes absolutely no sense. Oh yeah, he donated $1000 to the Republicans in the 2008 Presidential Election. http://m.us.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424…

Youngstown council sends airport officials to suburbs for funding

"Allegiant is only the most recent in a (if I remember correctly) string of airlines that came in and later cancelled service."

What are you talking about? If you are going to come on here and argue against the service, at least come with facts.

What service has Allegiant cancelled? NONE. They have added three additional cities to the original destination of Orlando-Sanford Intl. Airport.

Youngstown council sends airport officials to suburbs for funding

Nurse, we are a metropolitan area of over 600,000 people. To say nobody will use this service is laughable on your part. Time is money and the savings across the board by flying out of YNG will provide extra value to local businesses.

Additionally, you do realize Chicago O'Hare is the #2 airport in terms of passenger traffic in America, second only to Atlanta? Sure those two cities don't jump out at you as major destination cities, but they are the two largest airports in the US because of connecting traffic. You can connect virtually ANYWHERE in the world via Chicago O'Hare.

So before you come on here and whine like all of the other naysayers, I suggest you do some homework.

I recall back in 2005 when the local counties put up funding for a local match to bring Allegiant Air to our airport, there was quite the outrage. Nine years later, we are on pace for over 100,000 passengers with Allegiant. Back then the naysayers were far more vocal in their opposition to supporting this airport. However, now, as the airport continues to grow, you are seeing less and less of them.

Lose the doom and gloom attitude.

Port authority approves $420,000 to attract daily air service

You folks do realize YNG had a $250,000 SCASD grant back in 2006 which they used to land Allegiant Air at YNG. Eight years and four destinations later, we are now on pace for 120,000 passengers at YNG, the most since 1998!
