We are a blue collar hard working town and we all experience abnormally high stress levels due to needing to pay our bills, crime, family worries, etc..
It's a shame George Doward in the 4th ward didn't go after the vindicators endorsement. Best wishes to ray and continued support of your friends and voters. enjoy it because it is said that it never lasts long.
"The remaining two challengers, Anthony Catale, a member of the Youngstown school board, and Kevin Salata talk about the problems confronting the ward, but neither put forth a plan that is markedly different from what Drennen is doing."
In the 5th ward salata is HUGELY GIVING BACK to the community AND he wants to reduce wards - will drennen do that - no drennen will not do that and even the mayor stated reducing wards may need to happen.
I suppose the vindy will endorse rufus hudson in the future just to lay the cake icing of ruin upon our community as well.
Does the vindy know better than the mayor what is best for the city of youngstown?
salata left the vindy cold - what does that mean? Didn't mayor williams echo a few of salatas statements about changing city government for the better?
"The one thing city government must have is stability... ".
The vindy wants government stability and who doesn't, but that doesn't mean you have to sacrifice efficient government. The cold comment toward salata doesn't begin to make sense unless he told the vindy to go to hell.
The vindy dumps big time, yet politely, on catale for running for council office and throws rapovy to the curb when in actuality BOTH catale and rapovy double speak and never answer any questions. catale doesn't come close to what rapovy can do for the city, if you need to compare them. just look how bad catale handled the BOE.
Why hasn't vindy dumped on catale for THAT?
Vindy is doing what it has always done and that is stir the pot and get the juices flowing of the reader and that is just what happened within this article. drennen and ray congratulations and though I am in a different ward I and many others will be watching for great government from you for our city and not misjudging and mislabeling as only the vindy knows how.
Having a grandfather as a police officer isn't going to get you a kiss, a pat on the back, a $27,817 paycheck for part time work from me.
"but that should not be viewed as anything more than just politics."
Nothing more than politics? What has drennen in the 5th ward really done to improve our city besides rubber stamping what he is told to do? The man has done incredibly little for our town and the people of the 5th ward.
"Of the three challengers who met with newspaper’s editorial board, former Councilman Michael Rapovy was the least persuasive in discussing his candidacy. His criticism of Drennen’s commitment to the residents of the ward was without foundation."
Are You Kidding? Rapovy not only echoed the voter sentiment, but spoke the FACTS as well. WHAT HAS DRENNEN DONE?! pulling liquor licenses are enough for the vindicator to justify endorsement?
the man, drennen, did not bring in nor locate a store in the 5th ward - it was the stores choice. If paul had that much economical 5th ward power and intelligence, then WHY HASN'T drennen PULLED THAT RABBIT OUT OF HIS HAT AGAIN AND AGAIN to help the city residents?
Youngstown ranks as one of the most sleep-deprived cities in the nation
We are a blue collar hard working town and we all experience abnormally high stress levels due to needing to pay our bills, crime, family worries, etc..
No wonder we made THAT list.

Beachum prohibits vote on Chamber withdrawal
"Lock P. Beachum Sr., board president, wouldn’t allow a vote on Catale’s verbal resolution, saying Catale didn’t follow procedure."
I can't understand how Catale believes he should be a city councilman.
I won't list all of his public foibles here, but can't our city do better?
