SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR
The Piggyback Foundation of Youngstown recently hosted a chocolate fest event at Diletto Winery in Canfield that raised over $1,700. Treats served at the event were donations from local bakeries, restaurants, candy stores and caterers. , Kaitlin, left, and Kim Casto are shown enjoying a selection of sweets. Sponsors included Anthony Bisconti Orthodontics, Styka and Ohl DDS, Valley Christian Schools and New York Life Insurance agent Albert S. Celec Jr. Funds raised during the event will benefit a 5-year-old Youngstown boy battling cancer by providing a family portrait session, backyard swing set and summer art classes for the boy’s older sibling. Making Kids Count was a partner in the event and provided the referral for the Youngstown family. The Piggyback Foundation’s mission is to support families dealing with a serious illness by providing tutoring and enrollment in extracurricular activities for children and special occasion celebrations to promote family togetherness. Sue Datish, left, Sharon Bayus, Pat Shehabi, Barb Layfield and Amy Camardese served as hostesses during a recent meeting of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Beta Chi Chapter. The hostesses provided individually wrapped cookies monogrammed with icing as favors for meeting guests. The Beta Chi Chapter also honored founders, installed officers and heard a discussion from John Hudson during the meeting.

The Niles Chapter of the American Sewing Guild had its 14th annual style show, “The Extravaganza,” on April 30 at A La Cart Catering in Canfield. Prizes were awarded for best garment, best quilt and best miscellaneous item. Winners, from left, were Patti Augustine for her sewing-related embroidered quilt, Barbara Rosier-Tryon for a coat made of neoprene fabric and Denise Cline for her hand-painted pillow. Since the Niles Chapter will be celebrating its 25th anniversary, prizes were also awarded for items made 25 years ago. First place went to Barbara Springer; second, Sandy Rosier; and third, Pam Sullivan.

Members of the Harriet Taylor Upton Association met recently, and Dr. Katherine Durack of Cincinnati, above, shared the adventures of the Suffragettes and their efforts to raise funding. Three new rooms upstairs are now open to the public. The next open house will be from 2 to 4 p.m. June 5, and Christmas in July will take place July 3. The summer garage sale will be July 8 and 9. The GFWC Ohio Warren Junior Women’s League annual golf classic is set for June 17 at Pine Lakes Golf Course in Hubbard. A beneficiary of the event is Trumbull County Children’s Services. The golf scramble for men and women will have a shotgun start, and golfers will compete to win prizes or a car for a hole-in-one. Cost is $85 and will provide for 18 holes of golf, a cart, and a breakfast, lunch and steak dinner. Registration deadline is June 1. Making final preparations for the event are, from left, WJWL co-chairmen Mary Swift, Cara Mia Gatti, Lisha Baumiller, WJWL President Mary Lou Jarett, and Regina Gatti.
