As expected, almost a dozen area high school football teams are ranked high in the first statewide computer ratings, released on Tuesday by the Ohio High School Athletic Association.

The top eight teams in each region at the end of the regular season qualify for the playoffs. Eleven teams currently are in one of those top eight spots, with several others earning a mention in the top 12.

Leading their respective regions are unbeatens Girard in Division IV, Region 13, and Western Reserve in Div. VI, Region 21.

The Indians (4-0) last appeared in the postseason in 2009.

Western Reserve (4-0) is aiming for its fourth consecutive playoff appearance and fifth in the last six years.

Also in Div. IV, Brookfield (4-0) is third and LaBrae (3-1) is seventh. The Vikings and Indians have a showdown scheduled in Week 9.

Joining Western Reserve in the Div. VI rankings are Youngstown Christian (3-1) in fifth, Warren JFK (2-2) in sixth, Sebring (2-2) in 10th, Leetonia (2-2) in 11th and Jackson-Milton (2-2) in 12th.
