Canfield

Senior Wade Prueitt scored via interception, punt return and rush to help ignite Mathews’ 48-20 win over Youngstown Christian in a Northeast Athletic Conference game at Canfield High’s stadium Saturday.

From his inside linebacker position, Prueitt got the Mustangs off to a quick start with his 15-yard interception return for a score just minutes into the game.

His 45-yard punt return midway through the second quarter followed Zach Motts 20-yard touchdown reception from Tyler Hunt late in the first quarter.

As a running back, Prueitt scampered 42 yards for a score with 1:31 left in the first half to push Mathews’ halftime lead to 27-7 lead.

Prueitt had 17 carries for 104 yards for the Mustangs (3-2, 1-1)

Kevin Moyer booted six PATs for the winners.

For Youngstown Christian (0-5, 0-2), Darien Townsend was 9 of 22 for 131 yards including a 17-yard TD aerial to Anthony Abeid. Townsend, however, was picked off four times.

Ryan Coyier was the Eagles’ top receiver with four catches for 55 yards, including a 25-yarder from Townsend.

In a game in which yards were abundant but scoring scarce, Trinity scored with 1:10 remaining to come from behind against Warren JFK, 12-10.

Ryan McSweeney’s pass to Jay Wild covering 22 yards was the clincher for the visitor at Mollenkopf Stadium.

JFK had taken a 10-6 lead with 8:55 left when Jacob Schaefer scored on a 52-yard pass play from Carl Broadbent. Eric Bofenkamp made the extra point.

Bofenkamp also had a second-quarter field goal before the teams went scoreless in the third quarter.
