To avoid distraction from what they view is the message of the show, Tracy Schuler Vivo, Chaney VPA coordinator, and Rebecca Heikkinen, show director and Canfield High School guidance counselor, opted to replace one of the more racially derisive words throughout the "Ragtime" script.
