Youngstown 5th Ward candidates forum is Thursday

@ leetorres:

A friend of mine whom knows Salata said the 5th Ward hasn't seen anything yet in terms of progress and positive things Salata has planned to help our city.

Here is the link that Salata said he is donating money-

http://www.vindy.com/news/2011/jan/11/c…

My friend said Salata has even more donations to help the 5th Ward and city overall, but I don't know what has been made public yet. I had asked about Salata and his money and apparently it's all in his wifes' name. Blue collar millionaire or something like that. Salata has money and is financing his own campaign and I'm told has Walt Disney World annual passes, but that might not be true.

My friend said Salata is donating money and wants to reduce city council wards.

I hope people vote for him. I wish I was in his ward because this guy NEEDS to win to save our city.

Anyway, that's what I'm hearing. Hope there is a good turnout with press reports from that meeting. Can anyone go to it?

@ author50:

Your comment number 36, "Stop the posting! This just in:"

IS HYSTYRICAL! I am emailing it to all my friends! " ...get the Venerose payment plan...". HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I'm gonna have to print this out and frame it and hang it on my office wall! It's killer commentary! Please add me to your fan list and indeed I would like an officer position in your fan club.

Absolutely too good! Thank you for the big time hearty laugh!

@ falconeddy:

In comment number eleven falconeddy, you wrote some terse words to artie2010. You can't write to artie2010 like that. The anonymous writer is indeed making sense and you just ridicule that individual for, well, nothing.

falconeddy, perhaps you should find the commentator that goes by the monicker name carlstaatz and strike up a friendship.

But still all is cool :)

WHAT? KASICH IS THE ANTI CHRIST?
And all this time I've been worshipping Prince Harry and ALL of the International Bankers...

@ Freeatlast:

I never really tried drugs except I did inhale a few times and reading your comment, I'm glad I only did that.

Please, kindly translate your comment into sober english so the rest of us can have fun too. Thanks man, er, ah, dude.

@ captdinger:

I only want you to read this, so come here for a minute.

Cool, Hey, you know you are right and I know you are right, but friend your intelligence will make nothing but waves for the rest of us. What say we take an "authors vacation break" and get some chili and cheese fries at that hot dog place in Girard and talk about the crazy comment freeatlast made?

Alright, good deal. I'll meet you there.

AFSCME seeks support against budget cuts

@ JessieDavid:

Union workers are in the minority of the workforce so I must ask for your sources or to kindly post herein your calculations for how you came to your conclusions regarding HOW unions burden us financially.

Unions are big in our part of America, yet the financial crunch situation is ALL OVER America.

Also, regarding " especially benefits ", you stated that unions, " demanded and got, that raised prices for all of us who do not have employers that can pay those same type of benefits. "

If non union employers cannot afford the same benefits that union employers can, why is that a union's fault? I would imagine that is the fault of the company owner(s), the employer, who just happens to be non union or perhaps your non union company isn't being honest and hasn't "opened the books".

Workers whom currently are without union benefits and whom want union benefits should:

1). join a union by calling any union hall and ask how to get started,
2). join a union via trade school starting out into a career that has union (preferably a strong union representation), i.e. truck driving school = teamsters; electrician school = electrical union, etc..
3). start a union at their own workplace.

Why totally leave the decision of what type of benefits packages to choose from up to an employer?

Why allow an employer to only offer you three or seven benefit packages from which to choose, if you are offered to choose? Benefit packages can be customized to practically UNLIMITED in scope of offering, and of course in cost.

Do YOU trust your employer enough to make lifestyle and financial decisions for YOUR family?

You stated in comment number 9, " We have through the years been stuck with paying much higher medical prices that unions caused... ". Unions didn't cause anyone to pay higher medical costs for apples to apples comparison care coverage.

Doesn't the dubious honor of rising healthcare and medical costs fall to the attorneys, starting with the late 1980's cigarette lawsuits?

And what about all those fake worker comp filings?

And what about all the smokers racking up health care tabs?

And what about all those fat people getting hurt or needing crutches to get around in except at home while they sit on their fat ass?

What about all those people whom make poor lifestyle choices, including jumping off a roof and into a swimming pool so they can impress friends and get on television - WHAT ABOUT THEM?

Yet, you only state unions are the problem. Nah. Nope. Nay.

And lastly, You and TAXEDOFF are getting snobby with me. Why? I am sensitive and should be treated with kid gloves so I don't get my feelings hurt.

UAW boss snubbed by labor group

Ok my TAXEDOFF friend.

I went to the vindy search engine files for " FITZER " and I found nothing wrong, just a weird guy spying in pine trees.

As for Cafaro and his round table, well, anyone can buy anyone lunch and I am sure politicians love a free lunch. Well, I'm assuming the lunches were paid for by Cafaro.

Anyway, I don't see anything wrong with Cafaro having monthly lunches with community leaders. I do, however; have a problem with Cafaro's apparent sense of delusional self worth that seems to scream out of their (Cafaro) quotes given to vindy.

@ TAXEDOFF:

Haha! Respectfully I laugh at your posts mocking my questions and apparent lack of knowledge, my friend :)

No, I don't live under a rock. Actually, it is a wonderful life, better than most I imagine.

Kindly allow me to retort:

No, I am not at all familiar with the Saturday Cafaro Round table, but I am most curious about it and will indeed go to the Vindy archives and look up "FITZER".

You wrote:

"When Cafaro says jump Dave Betras only asks HOW HIGH?"

I'm not a big Betras fan, but he HAS fundraised alotta money for the party, regardless of where the money raised, came from, he did indeed raise it. So I ask you, what can be done about that? What is so wrong about that?

As far as Carol R., Righetti, whom I believe has deceived the voters as to whom she REALLY is, I ask of you:

Just because she had money, REGARDLESS of its source, doesn't mean Cafaro bought the election. And by the way, why hasn't DeBartolo given "large envelopes" to local candidates as you wrote they have received with Cafaro's? With you it's always Cafaro and no one else.

I've listened with great interest to the Ludt - Righetti debate on 570 am Dan Rivers Show (by the way Dan, please quit playing the country music on air, thank you sir), and it seemed to me that Ludt didn't care. It seemed to me that Ludt didn't care if he won the election or not.

Do Cafaro's OWN Ludt and tell him to take a fall in the 7th political round or they'd publicly release bad and dirty secrets about him?

Just asking and I appreciate your tutoring.

Mayor needs to tap resources in selecting new police chief

This story is straight right on!

An experienced Highway Patrolman, An experienced F.B.I. lawman, etc., someone from OUTSIDE our city NEEDS to be brought in and charged with turning things around.

A big question is-

Will this individual also seek federal funds to fight crime?

Will this individual invite not only state, but also FEDERAL lawman, undercover and otherwise, into our city to help turn things around?

Will this individual not lay a deaf ear to illegal activity being bought off by any amount of money?

Will this individual support a use it or lose it vacation policy for himself AND his men?

ON and on the questions can go, but mine are a great start.

Vindy you are typically right on 99.98% of the time. Why then, if solvable problems are fairly obvious and logical, do problems not get corrected, politically or otherwise, in this city when appropriate solutions are offered?

For our taxpayers out there whom are clueless, please enjoy the following song:

AFSCME seeks support against budget cuts

Many non union workers are standing on their own two feet BECAUSE of union workers and what unions have fought for, for decades.

Now that folks are trying to knock down unions, it is only a matter of time when the non union workers get squeezed without mercy and stripped of their rights.

In this economy - friends it is coming within three years, so dress warm. Very, very warm and bring food to your new home, the Wal Mart tent that sleeps six.

Youngstown folks:

NOW is the time to hit Austintown up for a JEDD using water as the leverage if you want Austintown AND their money.

House Speaker Pro Tempore Louis Blessing Jr. of Cincinnati, R-29th, basically stated casino approval from Toledo to Austintown is a done deal.

Just think of it - Eggs and a T - Bone Steak for only $4.99!

@ TAXEDOFF

I guess I must be.

Mommy said it would all get better especially when that Mr. Morley man got into politics around the mid 1990's.

Mommy said no one could hurt me anymore.

OK seriously now-

Money doesn't ALWAYS win, does it?

If the valley is controlled by the Cafaros', then how did the plan to get out of their East Side plaza succeed?

Why doesn't the DeBartolo name (even back in the Ed Sr. days), come up when politics is discussed here in the valley? I would think DeBartolo, (speaking now of the brother and sister) would keep a political grasp, but everyone ALWAYS points the finger to Cafaro?

DeBartolo, as well as Cafaro, has real estate holdings in Mahoning County and pays taxes etc. and are equal to that respect, so why Cafaro and not Debartolo AND Cafaro jointly control local politics as you basically stated?

Why would Cafaro scream and kick and yell about government services leaving his plaza - for what? $500,000.00 a year? If it is as simple as that, then it's just business as usual for The Cafaro Company and a departing tenant, right?

Please tell me what I am missing.

In my earlier comment about candidates only having so much money, well, they do only have so much money.

Who will pay $100,000.00 in an election to become a Mahoning County Commissioner? You pretty much have to do it on a budget of $60,000.00, right?

A candidate would be stupid to overpay, even with donations, for an election, so how does Cafaro enter into that equation?

If the Cafaro's control the Mahoning County Democratic Party Chair, then why are there NO endorsements for City of Youngstown 5th Ward Councilman?

I would think the Cafaro's would take a definite stand, even in the shadows, to have their candidate endorsed.

TAXEDOFF, I respect you and look forward to your comments, but I simply cannot " SEE IT ".

Who do the Cafaro's strong-arm to place a Democratic Party Chairman into power?

Who do the Cafaro's strong-arm to place a County Commissioner into power?

Who do the Cafaro's strong-arm to place a Mayor into power?

If it's all done with money flooding into a political campaign and lets cross our fingers that the marketing works, then isn't that just simple business strategy turned over into political strategy?

That's not called control, that's called tactical sense. Sweet savvy life experience.
