SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR
Austintown Historical Society will host its Spring Tea on April 30 at the Strock Stone House, 7171 Mahoning Ave. Seatings will be at noon, 2 and 4 p.m. Reservations are required before April 22, and tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for children under 12. The menu includes coffee and a variety of teas, fancy finger sandwiches, pastries and scones. Free tours of Strock Stone House will take place after each seating. There will be a basket raffle, with one ticket for $1, five for $3, and 15 for $5. The winner of the raffle does not need to be present. All proceeds will benefit the

Lauren Good, a member of the Austintown Fitch High School speech team, recently presented her speech “Civility” to Austintown Rotary Club as part of the club’s Four-Way Speech Contest. The winner will compete in the district competition in Akron on April 1. Good is the daughter of Jeff and Kate Good. She plans to pursue a degree in international business at Miami University in the fall. Above, from left, are Andrea Reed, Fitch speech coach; Lauren Good; and Ed Kalaher, Rotary president. SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR
Maraline Kubik of Sister Jerome’s Mission was the guest speaker at Struthers Rotary Club meeting Feb. 21. Kubik was hosted by JoAnn Sweeney, Rotary president, and Jennifer Johnson. Kubick previously worked as a reporter at The Vindicator and The Business Journal. She has worked as the director of Sister Jerome’s Mission since January 2016. The mission provides assistance to low-income families and college students. The college program supports students at YSU, Eastern Gateway Community College, Kent State and Kent State-Trumbull. Students are paired with mentors who assist in identifying potential funding sources for the program, which includes gift cards and vouchers for food and school supplies. There are 10 students in the program, and they are required to maintain a part-time job while attending school.
