SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR: Angels of Easter Seals recently presented a check for $45,000 to benefit the Easter Seals programs and services. The Silver and Gold Jubilee, the 30th annual Magic of the Angels Christmas benefit, took place in November at Mr. Anthony’s in Boardman. Services and programs provided by the non-profit Easter Seals include therapy, audiology, meal centers and delivery, a community center for the deaf, a teen club for teens with disabilities, child and adult day care, transportation, weekend care for medically fragile and disabled children or those with autism, and skills development for adults with autism. Tim Nelson, left, president and CEO of Easter Seals, accepted the check from Joan Zarlenga and Geri Kosar, Jubilee co-chairmen.

SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR: The seventh-grade basketball team of Salem Junior High School wore pink T-shirts at their last home game of the season. The shirts said “Supporting One of Our Own – Jette Beck,” in honor of teammate Darius Beck’s sister who recently had surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from her brain. Teammates wearing the shirts, in front from left, are Brock Young, Darius Beck, Sam Walter, Johnathon Null, Cameron Jaquette, Jack Wilson, Blaize Exline and Cory Reisen. Robert Toman, a trustee of Ellsworth Township, and Denny Furman, a trustee of Berlin Township, recently graduated from the Ohio Township Association Leadership Academy, a local government training program. The academy was founded in 2003 to educate elected officials, city staff and employees to develop their decision-making skills while serving in local government positions. Participants must graduate within three years and complete six of the ten courses offered, attend the academy’s general workshop, and either the National Association of Towns and Townships annual conference in Washington D.C. or the OTA Federal Day Workshop in Blacklick, Ohio.
