Boardman Lions sponsored an opportunity to learn about the challenges the blind face daily at a Dinner in the Dark. It took place July 29 at Boardman United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. The dinner consisted of salad, bread, pasta with meatballs and dessert. Diners ate while blindfolded. Funds raised will support the Pilot Dog Program and the Lions District Eye Care Foundation. Committee members were Lions Matt Gambrel, Jana Coffin, Ed Metzel and Sam and Allison Campana. The Ursuline Sisters’ HIV/AIDS Ministry will host a Nun Run 5K Race and 1 Mile Walk on Oct. 3 at the Ursuline Center, 4280 Shields Road, Canfield. From left, at the entrance to the center, are Sister Kathleen Minchin, ministry co-executive director; Dan Wakefield, special projects coordinator; and Brigid Kennedy, co-executive director. Registration is $20 if received by Oct. 2, or $25 the day of the event. Registration will open at the center’s auditorium at 7:30 a.m. At 8:45 a Kids Fun Run will begin, followed by the 1 Mile Walk at 9 and the 5K Race at 9:30. Awards will go to the top three overall male and female finishers. Proceeds will benefit the ministry,  in Youngstown.
