Time for a change: At the Jan. 26 meeting of Youngstown Rotary Club, Ohio state Sen. Joe Schiavoni, D-33rd, presented a synopsis of the ideas and programs that have been proposed to help cut the state’s budget, to reduce Ohio’s joblessness and to stimulate the slow economy. He spoke of the new state Congress and Ohio’s new governor John Kasich and stressed the need for the political parties to work together. He said that redistricting needs to be done because of the loss of two representatives at the federal level. He also spoke of the need for stronger education for the young, and the need for grants to help businesses expand and provide more jobs. Following his talk Sen. Schiavone, at left, is joined by Steve Kristen, Rotary Club president.

Gearing up for reverse raffle: Austintown Rotary Club will host its primary fundraiser, an evening of fine food, beverages and desserts, at 6:30 p.m. March 5 at the Maronite Center on Meridian Road, Youngstown. Those attending the event will have an opportunity to participate in a reverse raffle for a chance to win part of $2,000 in cash prizes. Tickets for the event are $150 per couple and include dinner for two, refreshments and a chance to win prizes. There also will be a mini board raffle; tickets are $25 each. Preparing for the sale of raffle tickets are, from left, Dr. Mitch Dalvin, Dr. Michael Cafaro, Brian Laraway and Melissa Crowley, Austintown Rotarians.
