WORD POWER: Rotary International designated Oct. 10 Make a Difference Day, and the Austintown Club did its part. With the Green Team of Mahoning County, Rotary and Fitch Interact members cleaned up Kirk Road. In another project, club members distributed dictionaries to all third-grade classes at Lloyd, Lynn Kirk, Watson, Woodside, St. Joseph/Immaculate Heart, St. Christine and Jackson Milton elementary schools. More than 500 students received dictionaries to keep. Above, students in Mrs. Carchedi’s and Mrs. Billock’s class at Woodside Elementary happily show off their new dictionaries.

NO TRICKS, JUST TREATS: Thirty members of Fitch Interact Club, with help from the club sponsor, the Rotary Club of Austintown, created 100 treat bags to be distributed to children at the Hope House of Youngstown. Among those involved in providing the Happy Halloween treats for the youngsters are, from left, kneeling, Miranda DeFurio and Liana DeFurio, and in back, Brandon Rivello, Zarek Bell, Sara Guittar, and Mariah DeFurio. During a recent meeting Eric Bohr, manager of Walgreen’s on Meridian at Mahoning Avenue, challenged members to get involved in the Dec. 18 Christmas party on Lexington Avenue for residents of the No Limits and Ginnette Alternative Centers.
