ST. PATRICK SCHOOL: Students at St. Patrick School in Hubbard got into the holiday spirit by collecting $200 to be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to help those who are suffering from the disease. LEARN TO SKI:  Beginners are invited to join the Good Times Ski and Snowboard Club on Jan. 9 for a Learn to Ski Day at Cockaigne Resort in western New York state. Sponsored by the club and the Ski Chalet, the trip is also open to experienced skiers and snowboarders. The bus will leave the Ski Chalet at 5:45 a.m., and make a pickup at 6 at the Wal-Mart on Elm Road. The trip will include a free lesson and a reception at the resort. The cost for the full day of activities is $59. Above are a number of skiers and snowboarders who are waiting to welcome participants in a day of winter fun on the slopes. HISTORICAL treasure: Eighteen scenes from around the county are depicted in Columbiana County Bicentennial throws that are being sold by Salem Historical Society as colorful mementos of days of yore in the county. The throws are available for $55 each at 208 W. Broadway Ave. The society is also selling 2010 Salem community calendars, featuring the homes of early industrialists, and the recently released book, “Backyard History,” featuring area carriage houses. Until the end of the year the society will sell the 156-page book “The Salem Story Continues” for the reduced price of $20. The book chronicles the past 50 years of Salem’s history and lists Salem High School coaches and Salem officials who have served during the past 50 years.  For more information call (330) 337-8514.

END OF DRIVE: The eighth-grade class at St. Patrick School has completed a series of drives during which food was collected for the St. Vincent de Paul Society Food Bank at St. Patrick Church in Hubbard. Above from left, Emily Frazzini, Joe Sebest, Alexandra Colacino, Nick Ezzo and Vince Seffera show a few of the items they helped to collect and to deliver to St. Vincent de Paul along with a check for $100 to be used to purchase additional food for the needy.
