Boardman-Glenwood Middle School, 7635 Glenwood Ave., will be the site of the iCAN Shine Bike Camp that will take place June 10-14. The camp uses adaptive bicycles, specialized instructional programs and trained staff to enable individuals with a disability to learn to ride a conventional bike. Riders attend one 75-minute session each day for five consecutive days. Cost for members of the Down Syndrome Association of the Mahoning Valley is $50 and $75 for nonmembers. Salem Public Library will offer a 12-week series of tai ji classes that will take place from 9 to 10 a.m. June 5 through Aug. 21 in Centennial Park, pavilion 2. Instructor will be Master Doug Nybell, owner of Crystal Dragon Family Martial Arts in Columbiana. Tai ji is a Chinese martial art that promotes good health. It is low impact with flowing movements that can be beneficial to individuals with some physical limitations. Classes are free and for adults of all ages. Kyle Kolat of Champion, an 11-year-old who is a national champion speed skater, will skate from northern Bristol Township, follow 17.6 miles of Mahoning Avenue and end at Kent State University Trumbull. He will skate to raise funds for Adult and Teen Challenge, a Christian-based drug- and alcohol-addiction rehabilitation treatment center for teens and adults.
