After working its way up, the Canfield football team finally claimed the top spot in Division III in the latest Associated Press Ohio High School polls.

The Cardinals received 10 first-place votes with 218 points following their 17-0 win at Struthers. Canfield is 5-0 and will host Boardman on Friday.

Hubbard and Poland remained at third and fourth in the Division IV poll for the third straight week.

Hubbard (5-0) received three first-place votes and 162 points following its 42-7 win at Howland. Poland (5-0) got one vote and 140 points after beating Alliance 19-0.

The Bulldogs will host Struthers and Hubbard will host Niles on Friday.

In Division V, LaBrae took a step back from last week’s poll. The Vikings received two first-place votes and fell to fourth with 134 points. LaBrae (5-0) beat Champion 62-7 and will travel to Newton Falls this weekend.

McDonald cracked the top 10 in Division VI after a 20-17 win over Springfield. The Blue Devils, who are 10th, received one firs-place vote and 37 points. The Tigers were seventh in last week’s poll, but dropped out following the loss.

With Springfield’s loss, Southern moved up to seventh with 87 points. The Indians (5-0) beat Lisbon 36-6 and will host East Palestine on Friday.

The Blue Devils (5-0) will host Jackson-Milton and Springfield (4-1) will host Sebring.

Other local teams receiving 12 or more points included: Austintown Fitch (Division I) with 16, Boardman (Division II) with 13 and Valley Christian (Division VII) with 14.
