HUBBARD

Hubbard took the lead in the second quarter and then held visiting Indian Creek to seven points in the second half en route to a 51-21 Division IV, Region 13 quarterfinal victory Saturday night.

The Eagles (10-1) had enough weapons to cover the loss of running back Rafael Morales, whose season was cut short due to two ejections during regular-season games.

Quarterback Davion Daniels had three touchdowns runs and Lukas Mosora had a pair of TD runs. Also scoring were Jermia Harris and Shannon Slovesko.

Hubbard will play Steubenville next week at a site to be announced today.

Daniels rushed 14 times for 222 yards as Hubbard outgained the Redskins on the ground, 481-56. The Eagles’ linemen were center Seth Jones, Joe Bednarik and Reese Best on the right side, Mario Eusanio and Anthony Shaffer of the left side and tight ends Matt Scheidegger and Alex Goodrick and the versatile Mosora.

Ahead 31-14 after Anthony Corrin’s 30-yard field goal, Jermia Harris broke off a 60-yard touchdown run to increase Hubbard’s lead to 37-14.

Harris said he was hungry in anticipation of making a big play.

“The coaches knew it was a good play for me,” Harris said of the “Blue Zebra” call. “They knew I was going to go out there and do my thing.

“I wanted to dominate. I wanted to get it in there,” he added.

Mosora opened the game’s scoring with a 33-yard run that caught the visitors off guard.

“They’d been looking at Ralph [Morales] and Jermia [Harris] offensively, and they look at me on defense, so they don’t expect me to get the ball on offense,” Mosora said.

Slovesko’s 20-yard TD catch was a simple straight route into the end zone that, seemingly, also caught the Redskins unaware of the 6-2, 205 senior wideout’s capabilities.

“I usually don’t get the ball because of JayQuan [Odem] and Bray (Donlow], so, when I heard the call was coming to me, I just did what I needed to help the team get a win,” Slovesko said.

Hubbard coach Brian Hoffman said that his team spread the wealth against Indian Creek (8-3).

“Offensively, we knew that the other guys had an opportunity to show what they could do. They had a chance tonight and we had a decent game plan in for our running game — trying to get Davion into the game early and Jermia and Mosora,” Hoffman said. “A lot of guys contributed — Donolow, Odem and Shannon, so we spread it around for a good team win.”

Hubbard took a 28-14 lead into the lockerroom after Mosora scored on a 33-yard run and extra-point kick by Corrin in the first quarter. Indian Creek followed with an 8-yard pass play from Sam Mazar to Brandon Hiles and Hiles’ PAT. Hubbard took the first-half lead for good when Daniels scampered 18 yards, then hit Slovesko for a 20-yard TD. Indian Creek pulled within 21-14 when Klay Cottis caught a 31-yard pass from Mazar, followed by Hiles’ PAT. The Eagles stretched their lead to 28-14 after Daniels ripped off a 60-yard touchdown run ithj 3:36 remaining in the half.
