DIVISION I
Who: Austintown Fitch (8-2) at Euclid (8-2).
Scouting report: The sixth-seeded Falcons bring a four-game winning streak into the postseason. Fitch uses Bobby Cavalier and Dom Montalbano at quarterback. Last week against Cardinal Mooney, Montalbano scored the Falcons’ three touchdowns in a 24-14 win. Fitch head coach Phil Annarella has an 83-45 record in 12 seasons. Panthers head coach Jeff Rotsky is in his fourth season and his team has made the playoffs four times. Running back Brandon Wright will play for Michigan State and linebacker Sean Jackson is their best defensive player.
DIVISION II
Who: Boardman (6-4) at Maple Heights (10-0).
Scouting report: The seventh-seeded Spartans have won two of their past three games, losing to Fitch 21-20 in Week 9. Running Josh Rodriguez leads the Spartans in rushing with 572 yards and six touchdowns on 123 carries. Quarterback Mike O’Horo has passes 1,224 yards and eight touchdowns. Connor Miller caught 16 of them for 275 yards and two scores. The closest call for the Mustangs was last week’s 28-21 win over Cleveland Heights.
Who: Garfield Heights (10-0) at Warren Harding (8-2).
Radio: WBBW-AM 1240.
Scouting report: The fourth-seeded Raiders, winners of the All-American Conference Gold Tier, have a seven-game winning streak that earned them a home game. They edged Boardman, 17-14, in Week 7 and East, 21-14, in Week 9. Kay’Ron Adams has 1,564 yards rushing with 17 TDs on 207 carries. The Bulldogs dominated most of their opponents. Their only scare came in Week 3 with a 27-20 win over Bedford. They also defeated South Range, 29-9, in Week 7.
DIVISION III
Who: Marlington (8-2) at Canfield (9-1).
Scouting report: In the final season in the All-American Conference Red Tier, the Cardinals finished runner-up to East, which pulled off 12-7 upset in Week 8. Canfield defeated Boardman 21-14 and Poland 34-7. Mehlyn Clinkscale leads the Cards in rushing with 652 yards on 83 carries. Quarterback Max Dawson passed for 699 yards and ran for 557. The Dukes’ losses came in Week 1 to Poland (17-14) and Week 10 to Alliance (29-8). Their eight-game winning streak included victories over South Range (35-12), Salem (40-24) and West Branch (28-20).
DIVISION VI
Who: Southern (9-1) at Creston Norwayne (9-1).
Scouting report: The sixth-seeded Indians shared the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference title with United. Some of their biggest wins were against Columbiana (42-14), Lisbon (36-6) and East Palestine (52-22). Norwayne’s loss was to Mogadore (35-34) in Week 1. The Bobcats needed overtime to escape Hillsdale (34-28).
Who: McDonald (10-0) vs. Rootstown (9-1) Dix Stadium, Kent State University.
Scouting report: Despite being undefeated, the fifth-seeded Blue Devils did not earn a home playoff game. Their closest calls were to Springfield (20-17) and Western Reserve (21-6). Alex Cintron has 1,696 yards and 29 touchdowns. Josh Celli has 1,080 yards with 18 TDs. Rootstown’s loss came last week against Mogadore (28-18). They had wins over Valley Christian (30-16) and Newton Falls (62-0).
SATURDAY
DIVISION IV
Who: Girard vs. East at Stambaugh Stadium Youngstown State University.
Scouting report: The fourth-seeded Golden Bears, winners of the All-American Conference Red Tier, are the Mahoning Valley’s feel-good story of the 2018 season. East spoiled perfect-season hopes for Canfield (12-7) and Hubbard (26-21). Their 10-0 win at Poland kept the Bulldogs from the postseason. Their losses were to Boardman (26-6), Austintown Fitch (13-0) and Warren Harding (21-14). Zane Cylar has passed for 509 yards. Marquon Herron has 12 receptions for 266 yards. The Golden Bears’ strength is their defense and they will have their hands full against the Indians’ high-powered offense. Quarterback Mark Waid leads the Mahoning Valley with 2,721 yards and 34 TDs. His favorite targets are Nick Malito (712 yards) and Terrance Davis (530 yards).
Who: Indian Creek (8-2) at Hubbard (9-1).
Radio: WBBW-AM 1240.
Scouting report: The Eagles’ perfect season was halted with 10 seconds to go in Week 10 when East scored a touchdown for the 26-21 victory. The third-seeded Eagles’ only other close game was a 17-0 win over Poland. Hubbard swept their All-American Conference White Tier schedule. Davion Daniels leads the Hubbard offense with 1,186 yards and 15 TDs rushing and 961 yards and 16 TDs through the air. JayQuan Odem is top receiver with 39 catches for 537 yards and seven scores. Indian Creek’s wins included victories over Beaver Local (35-0) and Crestview (21-12). The Redskins’ losses were to Alliance (26-13) and St. Clairsville (14-7).
DIVISION V
Who: Wickliffe (8-2) at LaBrae (9-1).
Scouting report: The third-seeded Vikings finished runner-up to Girard in the All-American Conference Blue Tier. LaBrae lost to Girard, 35-21, in Week 9. They dominated their other opponents, outscoring them 494-80. Kent Wolford passed for 1,815 yards and 20 TDs. Colton Stoneman is the Vikings’ leading rusher with 723 yards and 13 TDs. Walt Allie caught 21 passes for 530 yards and seven TDs. The Blue Devils come into the postseason after a Week 10 loss to Kirtland (34-7). Their other loss was to Cuyahoga Heights (41-34). Their biggest wins were against Independence (40-6) and Fairview (28-24).
Who: Crestview (6-3) at Gilmour Academy (10-0). The game will kick off at 1:30 p.m. because the Lancers’ field does not have lights.
Scouting report: In their final season playing an independent schedule, the Rebels’ big wins were against Struthers (36-22) and Kent Roosevelt (42-22). Their losses were to West Branch (48-35), South Range (48-21) and Indian Creek (21-12). Dylan Huff leads the Rebels in rushing with 1,089 yards and 12 scores. Stephen Barr rushed for 664 yards and six TDS and Andrew Yanssens ran for 585 yards and eight TDs. Anchoring the line is four-year starter Dominic Perry, a state champion in shot put. The Lancers’ wins included victories against Valley Christian (33-6) and Warren JFK (14-3). CJ O’Connor has 2,035 yards rushing. Jack Kosar leads the defense with eight-and-a-half sacks and 33 tackles for loss.
DIVISION VII
Who: Warren JFK (5-5) at Windham (9-1).
Scouting report: After a 1-4 start, the Eagles caught fire. They have a two-game winning streak after playing Cleveland Central Catholic (37-14) and Cleveland VASJ (47-8). The Bombers dominated the Northeastern Athletic Conference. Their loss was to Garfield (40-12) in Week 5.
Who: Valley Christian (5-5) at Ashland Mapleton (7-3).
Scouting report: The Eagles, who have lost their last four games, are making their second straight postseason appearance. Their biggest wins were against Garfield (39-36) and Western Reserve Academy (33-12). Milan Square passed for 1,358 yards and nine TDs. Altwjuan Beck-Lindsey rushed for 1,074 yards and 11 TDs. Jordan Trowers caught 40 passes for 622 yards and five TDs. The Mounties have a two-game winning streak.
