Campbell hires Jennings

Butch Jennings, the head coach at Valley Christian for the 2016 season, has been named head coach at Campbell Memorial High School. Jennings has coached for a combined 12 years at various levels. He was named a two-time Virginia Independent High School State Coach of the Year during the 2012 and 2013 seasons after winning two back-to-back state championships. “Coach Jennings brings with him a strong background of player development and engagement, with many of his former players transitioning to the collegiate level,” said Ron Aulet, Campbell Athletic Director.

HARTVILLE

Devan Keevey led the Irish (2-11) with 19 points while Shawn Phillips had 13. Vince Armeni and Ethan Courtney scored nine points each. Caleb Bower led Lake Center Christian (5-7) with a game-high 20 points.

Cleveland Shaw 59, Cardinal Mooney 38

YOUNGSTOWN

Cardinal Mooney trailed 26-13 at halftime and Cleveland Shaw never gave up the lead. Terrell Brown led the Cardinals with a team-high 11 points. Teammate Pete Haas scored nine points. Cleveland Shaw’s Emanuel Perdue led all scorers with 15.

Warren Harding 69, Lakeside 42

SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP

Dom McGhee led Harding with 16 points and four assists. Tyre Marlowe added 15 points and nine rebounds and Trevell Trimble also had 15 points for the Raiders. Also in double figures for Harding was D’Muntize Owens with 13 points.

Poland 67, Niles 56

POLAND

Cyler Kane-Johnson scored 20 fourth quarter points and had 38 points overall, including seven 3-pointers for Niles, but it wasn’t enough as a balanced scoring attack led Poland to victory. Dan Kramer scored 20 and had 13 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs, while Brandon Barringer and Braeden O’Shaughnessy scored 12 points each. Michael Cougras added three 3-pointers for Poland.

Lakeview 73, Hubbard 43

CORTLAND

Hubbard couldn’t stop the Bulldogs’ offense. Lakeview shot 30-49 (61.2 percent) from the field and 11-18 behind the 3-point line. Daniel Evans scored game-high 17 points for Lakeview (11-3, 6-2). Nic Ferrara led Hubbard with nine points.

Struthers 76, Jefferson 57

STRUTHERS

Carson Ryan led the Wildcats with 18 points. Isaiah Torreance added 14 and Struthers rolled past Jefferson. Brandon Washington and Ryan Leoard added eight points each for the Wildcats.

Champion 74, Brookfield 43

BROOKFIELD

Drake Batcho scored 37 points to lead Champion. Joe Abramovich added 11 points and Chase Wheelock had 10 for the Flashes. Conner Stevens led Brookfield with 20 points.

Girard 65, Newton Falls 63

NEWTON FALLS

Girard outlasted Newton Falls in a fourth quarter where the Indians outscored the Tigers 33-32. Girard used a balanced scoring attack led by Austin Claussell with 18 points. The Indians also received double digit scoring from David Blackmon (16 points), Anthony Backus (15), and Ferdinand Martinez (11). Newton Falls was led by Preston Rapczak who scored 33 points, including seven 3-pointers. Gage Friend added 12 for the Tigers.

McDonald 88, Jackson-Milton 28

MCDONALD

The McDonald duo of Zach Rasile (30 points) and Braedon Poole (26) combined for 56 points to lead the Blue Devils. Rasile made eight 3-pointers and Josh Celli added 14 points as the Blue Devils rolled over Jackson-Milton. Mason Robison led the Blue Jays with 13 points.

Springfield 71, Sebring 39

NEW MIDDLETOWN

Evan Ohlin scored 22 points to spark the Tigers (8-5, 6-3 Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference). Drew Clark’s 19 points included four 3-pointers. Shane Eynon’s double-double had 15 points and 11 rebounds. John Ritter scored 12 points. For the Trojans (6-8, 2-7), Gabe Lanzer led with 11 points.

Salem 63, Alliance 47

SALEM

Mitch Davison led the Quakers with 21 points while Josh Young scored 15. Young make three of Salem’s six 3-pointers. Chase Ackerman had eight points for Salem. Trevor Strata scored 10 for Alliance and Quardell Quay scored nine.

East Palestine 65, Leetonia 51

EAST PALESTINE

Branden Kemp’s 26 points included four 3-pointers for the Bulldogs. Also scoring in double figures were Dominic Posey with 18 and Stephen Darlington with 10. For the Bears, Roman Ferry led with 22 points. Caleb Witmer netted 10 points.

LISBON

Nate Karaffa led the Red Knights with 21 points. For the Blue Devils (7-6, 4-6 EOAC), Justin Sweeney led with 26 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and four steals. Branson Brownfield scored 16 points and made 11 rebounds and three blocks. Ryan McCullough scored 11 points and Brice Blackburn made nine rebounds.

HANOVERTON

Southern led 38-37 at the end of the third quarter, but United pulled away thanks to an 8-2 fourth. Dakota Hill and Parker Hydrick scored 13 points each. Ethan West led Southern with 16 points.

MALVERN

Warren JFK trailed 17-4 at the end of the first quarter, but outscored Malvern 45-29 in the second half. Byron Taylor led Warren JFK with 21 points while B.J. Williams had 18. Teammate Tyler James scored 12 points. Mark Mayle had 15 for Malvern.

Indian Creek 51, Beaver Local 45

EAST LIVERPOOL

Beaver Local led 38-37 at the end of the first but Indian Creek scored 14 in the fourth quarter to win. Indian Creek’s Austin Yarch led all scorers with 23 points. Beaver Local’s Luke Chetlock scored a team-high 14 while Josh Hilditch had 11 points.

Maplewood 75, Southington 53

SOUTHINGTON

Thomas Rink scored 22 points and Maplewood rolled over Southington. Thomas Dorsey and Hunter Bated scored 14 points each for the Rockets and Jared Bedlion added 11. Trystan Mollohan led the way for Southington, scoring 14 points. Kyle Caracanas added 11 points and Aidan Ricks had 10 for the Tigers.
