FALL ATHLETES Lukas Mosora

Hubbard linebacker Lukas Mosora isn’t the biggest, fastest or strongest. But he makes tackles.

The 5-foot-8, 190-pound senior finished with more than 185 tackles and was responsible for organizing the Eagles’ front seven. Prior to the season, Hubbard head coach Brian Hoffman said Mosora was one of the biggest keys to the Eagles defense.

Mosora was named the Division IV Northeast Inland District co-defensive player of the year, Division IV first-team All-Ohio and the All-American Conference White Tier defensive player of the year.

“I credit [the stats and accolades] to how I was raised to play by my family and how I’ve been coached to play throughout my whole life,” Mosora said. “It’s just the way I’ve known to play so it’s worked out for me my entire career, pretty much.”

The Eagles finished 11-2 and reached the Div. IV regional final. Hubbard allowed 11.6 points per game in 13 games and had a four-game shutout streak during the middle of the season.

Despite being knocked out of the playoffs, Mosora still believes the team was a state title contender and had successful season.

“Coming into the season, we saw what we had — our chance to make it to a state championship,” Mosora said. “I still believe we had the capability, we came up a little short. We didn’t play our best game, obviously.

“I think there was a lot of things, as a whole, we didn’t do right. At this point in the season, making little mistakes can end a season when you’re playing teams like Girard or Steubenville.”

He believes the team could have played better during the year. He said the team could have added a couple more shutouts.

Mosora is still deciding if we wants to continue his football career in college. He hasn’t made a decision on where he will attend school next year.

“I’m looking at schools like Wooster and Westminster and schools like that — small Division III colleges,” Mosora said. ”
