Remish, Perry make first team

Girard quarterback Mark Waid dazzled the Mahoning Valley with 2,741 yards of passing this season.

He also impressed a panel of statewide media voters. Monday, Waid was named Ohio’s Division IV Offensive Player of the Year.

Waid threw 31 touchdown passes and was intercepted three times in guiding the Indians to a 9-1 regular-season record. In the playoffs, the Indians defeated Lakeview before being ousted by Perry.

His favorite target – Michael Belcik – also made first-team All-Ohio. Belcik caught 56 passes for 1,124 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Joining them as first-teamers are Cardinal Mooney offensive lineman Kyle Jornigan and defensive back Antonio Page and Hubbard linebacker Lukas Mosora.

In Div. V, South Range linebacker and Crestview offensive lineman Dominic Perry were named to the first team.

Remish led the Raiders on defense to an undefeated regular-season. South Range won three playoff games for the Region 17 title, then lost to Pemberville Eastwood 21-7 in the state semifinals last Friday. In 14 games, Remish made 151 tackles including 34 for loss.

DIV. IV

Girard defensive lineman Jack DelGarbino and linebacker Jamil Bannister were named to the second team. Joining them were Salem punter Mitch Davidson, West Branch wide receiver Kyle Linhart and Poland defensive back Mike Diaz.

Linhart caught 90 passes for 1,205 yards, tops in the Mahoning Valley.

Lakeview quarterback Zach Rogers made the third team as did Poland offensive lineman Drew Davies and Struthers offensive lineman Jimmy Stefanski. Rogers passed for 1,755 yards and 16 TDs.

On defense, linemen Alec Catsoules (Poland), Vinnie Gentile (Cardinal Mooney) and Connor Calabrette (Struthers) were selected to the third team.

DIV. V

South Range quarterback Aniello Buzzacco, who passed for 1,995 yards and rushed for 1,313, was named to the second team. His top target, Mathias Combs, made the third team. He caught 58 passes for 1,094 yards and 14 touchdowns.
