DIVISION IV REGIONAL SEMIFINAL Cardinal Mooney vs. Steubenville
Kickoff: 7:30, tonight.
Where: Reilly Stadium, 849 E. Pershing Street, Salem.
Records: Cardinal Mooney 7-4; Steubenville 11-0
Coaches: P.J. Fecko for Cardinal Mooney; Reno Saccoccia for Steubenville
Playoff appearances: Cardinal Mooney 29; Steubenville 30
Notable: Both teams enter the game on lengthy win streaks. Steubenville is undefeated and Cardinal Mooney won four straight, and six out of the last seven. A 10-9 loss to Akron Buchtel was the only blemish on Mooney’s record during that span. The Cardinals won against Division I Cleveland Heights and Boardman during the regular season, and added to their resume after a 13-7 road win over Poland in the first round. Antonio Page ran for over 1,000 yards on the year but left the Poland game after injuring himself on a fumble recovery. Page was replaced by John Murphy, who threw a 13-yard touchdown to Nico Marchionda to end the first half. Steubenville, the AP Division IV poll champions, is coming off a 49-14 victory over Salem in the Region 13 quarterfinals. Big Red has scored at least at least 30 points in nine of its 11 victories. The other victories were 28-6 against Morgantown and 21-10 against Dover, and both games came on the road. Friday will mark just the third time Big Red is playing away from Harding Stadium. Senior running back Jacob Bernard leads the rushing attack with 1,077 yards on 155 carries and 18 touchdowns. He had 15 carries for 131 yards and three TDs against Salem, all coming in the first half. Senior Quentin Moore leads Big Red’s defense with 58 tackles (23 for a loss) and eight sacks.
