Five games to watch in Week 2

BOARDMAN @ MOONEY

Both of these historical rivals are coming off one-sided victories in Week 1. Boardman had its way with East 41-0 behind Koby Adu-Poku’s 186 yards and four TDs. Those yards figure to be a little harder to get against Mooney, which crushed Cleveland Heights 42-6. The Cardinals got two TDs from Ray Anderson and 92 yards and another TD from Jaylen Hewlett.

URSULINE @ EAST

The Irish worked overtime — two of them to be exact — to finish a 33-32 win over Benedictine in Week 1. It wasn’t over until Jeff Marx blocked a PAT kick. That made Ian O’Brien’s PAT — after Spencer Warren’s third TD — the decisive point. Dakota Hobbs had an 85-yard KO return and caught a 36-yard TD pass. East is looking for its first win under Jerron Jenkins.

POLAND @ NILES

The Ryan Williams era began with a 35-21 loss at Marlington in Week 1, but the Bulldogs’ Week 2 foe is one they’ve owned. They’re 22-4 lifetime against the Red Dragons. Niles is coming off a 47-26 win over Girard in Week 1 and the game is at Bo Rein Stadium, but the Red Dragons will be without two players ejected after a melee against the Indians.

COLUMBIANA @ CRESTVIEW

The backyard rivals will be meeting for perhaps the last time, as detailed in Brian Dzenis’ story in today’s Blitz section. The Clippers dropped 63 points on Western Reserve in Week 1 behind the legs and arm of QB Mitch Davidson. But they allowed 52. The Rebels put up 55 in a rout of Collinwood and are not happy about being abandoned by the rest of the ITCL.

WESTERN RESERVE @ SOUTH RANGE

The Blue Devils did the virtually impossible in Week 1. They rushed for 450 yards — including more than 100 each by Austin Seifert (144 yards), Jack Cappabianca (140) and Wyatt Larimer (123) — and lost 63-52. The yards and points will be tougher to come by against the Raiders, who held McDonald to 87 total yards and rallied to win with three TDs in the final 9:08.
