Mahoning County OVI checkpoints tonight

The Mahoning County OVI Task Force, in conjunction with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, is conducting two OVI checkpoints tonight.

The first, at 483 N. Canfield-Niles Road, Austintown, started at 10 p.m. and will run through midnight.

The second, at 6809 Market St., Boardman, will run from 1 to 3 a.m.

In addition, officers from participating agencies of the task force and the OSHP will be conducting saturation patrols in various parts of the county throughout the weekend.

The checkpoints, funded by federal grants, are planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers. The saturation patrols are aimed at aggressively combating alcohol-related injury and fatal crashes.

Drivers need to make arrangements to get home safely if they are planning to consume alcohol.
