Two teams were looking for their first win Saturday at Dave Pavlansky Field, so something had to give.

The Youngstown Christian football team not only gave, but Warren JFK took away en route to an easy 35-7 victory.

Warren JFK scored three times in the opening quarter while an opportunistic defense forced three turnovers and held Youngstown Christian to minus 29 yards rushing.

“I thought that we played well the last two weeks, the first half against Girard last week and the same thing again tonight,” said Jeff Bayuk after his first win as Warren JFK’s head coach. “Tonight, we played well on both sides of the football and that was the difference in the game.”

Brian Morrow, Youngs-town Christian’s head coach, said his team “still had way too many mistakes, especially with bad snaps on special teams and that must be corrected.

“Too many self-inflicted wounds proved to be very costly for us tonight,” Marrow said. “Well get better with practice. We just need to keep our focus and move forward.”

JFK racked up 212 yards rushing.

Bayuk said his quarterback “Michael Roscoe practices hard every week and is undaunted by any obstacles that he faces. He stops at nothing in order to improve and I am just so proud of his resilience under center.

“As for Royal Smith, he’s listed at 5-feet-5, but he plays like he is 6-5 and that’s one of the reasons he is one of our captains,” Bayuk said. “He had serious hip surgery in the off-season and has come back stronger than ever.”

The JFK defense forced its first fumble on the second play of the game. Two plays after that, Dimaje Clinkscale scored from 3 yards away for a 6-0 advantage.

A 30-yard run by Smith a few minutes later increases the lead to 12 points.

“We practiced hard all week and had the right mindset,” Smith said. “We’ve had a tough start to our season so this was a huge win for both the entire team and our coaching staff.

Ross Nocera scored from a yard out to make it 19-0. Smith then returned an interception 29 yards for a touchdown.

Roscoe found Jacob Coates from 20-yards out for a 33-point lead at intermission.

“When you have excellent field position like we did most of the game, it’s so much easier for a quarterback and the offense,” Roscoe said.

After a scoreless third period using the running clock, Youngstown Christian (0-4) avoided the shutout when Ryan Houston hit Jamynk Jackson from 9 yards out for a touchdown.

Jackson hauled in six Eagles aerials for 23 yards.

During pregame ceremonies, Houston and kicker Payton Schnable were crowned Youngstown Christian’s Homecoming king and queen.
