Jenkins’ big plays lift Cards to rout of Alliance

ALLIANCE

Canfield (1-1) built a 21-7 lead midway through the third quarter and eventually beat Alliance, 44-13.

The Aviators (1-1) closed to within 21-13, Aaron Jenkins raced 81 yards for a score on the next play from scrimmage, the first of 23 straight points as the Cardinals pulled away.

Jenkins added a 40-yard scoring run early in the fourth quarter and Drew Rogers, who ran for two touchdowns earlier in the game, ran an interception back 28 yards for a TD.

Jenkins finished with 212 yards rushing for the Cardinals (1-1) and Rogers had 62.

Fitch 51, Cardinal Newman (Ont.) 12

AUSTINTOWN

Antwan Harris carried nine times for 201 yards and two touchdowns and also completed 6 of 8 passes for 92 yards and two more scores to lead Fitch (2-0).

Darrin Hall ran 16 times for 85 yards and a TD and also caught a 25-yard touchdown, while Tyler Hewlett ran for another TD, Maurice Rivers caught a 58-yard TD pass and Jaylen Sanders returned a kickoff 77 yards for a touchdown.

Nicholas Petermann and Justin Connolly had TD runs for Newman (0-1).

Western Reserve 43, Malvern 7

BERLIN CENTER

A 22-point third quarter blew open a 21-7 halftime lead as the Blue Devils (2-0) rolled. John Clegg passed for 202 yards and three touchdowns, Evan Nesbitt ran for 99 yards and a score and the Western Reserve defense forced three turnovers and recorded a safety against the Hornets (0-2).

West Branch 33, Crestview 27

BELOIT

The two teams combined to score four touchdowns in the final seven minutes, but West Branch held on to beat Crestview at home. West Branch (1-1) quarterback Corey Snyder threw for 166 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 192 yards and two more scores. Snyder’s 68-yard touchdown run with 4:34 remaining secured the win for the Warriors. Jesse Best had 115 rushing yards and five total touchdowns, but threw two interceptions in the loss for the Rebels (1-1).

Lisbon 35, Mineral Ridge 7

MINERAL RIDGE

Josh Liberati passed for 126 yards and three TDs to lead the Blue Devils. Lisbon scored in the first three quarters and held the Rams to 86 yards of offense. Austin Davis had nine carries for 42 yards and a touchdown for the Blue Devils. Frankie Morrel had a receiving and rushing touchdown. Lisbon had 347 yards of offense. Tracy Cross had a receiving TD for the Rams.

Jackson-Milton 29, Newton Falls 6

North Jackson

Joey Burnside rushed for 180 yards and scored two TDs to lead the Bluejays (2-0), His scores covered 2 and 40 yards. Alex Thornburg returned a punt 60 yards and Zach Smith scored on a 9-yard run. Brad Mitchell scored on a 75 yard run for the Tigers (1-1),

United 34, Salem 26

HANOVERTON

United (2-0) drove 34 yards in nine plays and Bryan Weyant scored the clinching touchdown from 1 yard out with 1:39 remaining. The Golden Eagles built a lead of 20-0 in the first half, only to see Salem (1-1) tie the game early in the third quarter on a 23-yard fumble return by Andrew Irwin. United went back ahead 27-20 and Salem responded early in the fourth quarter, but a two-point conversion attempt failed. Weyant rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns for United and Cody Dickens passed for two scores. Cooper Bezeredi ran for a touchdown and caught a scoring pass for Salem.

Lowellville 50, Windham 16

WINDHAM

Alex Harklerode ran for a score and threw for three more in Lowellville’s blowout victory. The senior quarterback was 6 of 7 for 79 yards passing and had 16 carries for 203 yards. The Rockets (1-1) scored three TDs in the first quarter and cruised to an easy win. It was 36-0 before the Bombers (0-2) found the end zone. Phil Ginnis had two interceptions for Lowellville, returning one 100 yards for a touchdown.

Brookfield 33, Independence 0

INDEPENdENCE

Augustus Necastro passed for three TDs and ran for one and Brookfield (1-1) blew open a 14-0 halftime lead with a 19-point fourth quarter. Necastro finished with 162 yards passing on 10-for-15 passing. Nate Morrison ran for 184 yards and a touchdown and Brian Hiner caught six passes for 86 yards and two scores.

Sebring 53, Southington 15

SOUTHINGTON

Nate Martin carried seven times for 102 yards and three TDs and also returned an interception 26 yards for a TD to lead Sebring (2-0). Diamonte McMullen added 91 yards rushing, including a 30-yard TD, while Nick Rine and Robbie Rouse also ran for TDs. Cody Dennis capped the scoring with a 20-yard fumble return. Travis Lehman threw two TD passes for Southington (0-2).
