Boardman 17, Massillon Jackson 14

BOARDMAN

Mario Graziani rushed 22 times for a career-high 221 yards and a touchdown to lead the Boardman High football team to its first win of the season.

Graziani scored with 2:48 left to give Boardman (1-7) a 17-7 lead and ran four straight times to run out the clock after Jackson had pulled within three points with 1:36 left on Jake Pallotta’s 20-yard TD pass to Jake Kempt.

Benji Roberts had 12 carries for 52 yards and a TD with 4:25 left and Adam Deeley made a 30-yard field goal in the first quarter for the Spartans, who also got a crucial onside kick recovery by Gavin Dill.

Ricky Spalding ran for 217 yards and Pallotta completed 11 of 20 passes for 168 yards and also ran for a TD with 3:03 left for the Polar Bears (5-3), who advanced inside Boardman’s 20 three times only to come away scoreless. Charlie Costin missed a 22-yard field goal in the third quarter that proved to be the difference.

Ursuline 21, East 0

YOUNGSTOWN

Vito Penza ran for a touchdown and passed for another and Kimauni Johnson ran for 137 yards and a score on 14 carries as the Irish defeated the Panthers at Rayen Stadium.

Ursuline (6-2) controlled the game on the ground, rushing for 202 yards and limiting East (1-7) to four rushing yards on 32 attempts.

Penza ran for 56 yards on 12 carries, including a 1-yard keeper for a TD in the second quarter. He also threw an 11-yard TD pass to Dakota Hobbs early in the fourth quarter.

Johnson ran 35 yards for a TD in the second quarter.

South Range 49, Columbiana 20

NORTH LIMA

Raiders running back Joe Alessi ran for 324 yards and four touchdowns on just 18 carries as South Range (5-3, 3-2 Inter Tri-County League Tier One) rolled over Columbiana (4-4, 2-3).

Alessi’s touchdown runs covered 59, 2, 78 and 5 yards. The Raiders rolled up 457 rushing yards on 37 attempts. Quarterback Ryan Miller added a 3-yard TD run and fullback David McCabe ran for a 6-yard score. Miller was 8 of 14 for 116 yards.

Mitch Davidson was 21 of 27 for 218 yards for the Clippers. He threw a 3-yard TD pass to Sean Congemi and a 10-yarder to Dalton Miller.

McCabe and Mario Buzzacco recovered Columbiana fumbles for South Range and Ben Baird intercepted a pass for the Raiders.

United 24,

Lisbon 21

HANOVERTON

Tyler Powers ran for 128 yards and two touchdowns and Cody Dickens threw a 62-yard scoring pass to Eric Blosser as the Golden Eagles (6-2, 3-2 ITCL Tier One) beat the Blue Devils (6-2, 3-2).

The difference in the game wound up being Nick Varagliotti’s 22-yard field goal midway through the second quarter.

United racked up 294 rushing yards on 52 attempts. Colton Antram added 91 on 14 carries.

Josh Liberati passed for a TD and ran for another for Lisbon. The Blue Devils’ Jason Thompson ran for 83 yards on 16 carries, including a 53-yard TD run.

East Palestine 43, Jackson-Milton 27

EAST PALESTINE

After trailing 27-13, the Bulldogs (3-5, 2-3 ITCL Tier One) scored 30 unanswered points. Josh Pickett led the attack, rushing for 262 yards on 29 carries and scoring touchdowns on runs covering 40, 41 and 15 yards.

Quarterback Luke Cope scored on a 64-yard run and hit Jarrod Figley with a 25-yard pass.

For the Bluejays (3-5, 0-5), quarterback Mike Assion completed 12 of 22 passes for 214 yards and two touchdowns (Nick Goodlin for 20 yards, Nate Kramer for 63 yards).

McDonald 47, Leetonia 0

LEETONIA

Caleb Dimery ran eight times for 157 yards and three touchdowns and Jake Reckard added six carries for 83 yards and two TDs to lead McDonald (8-0, 5-0 ITCL Tier Two), which scored all of its points in the game’s first 26 minutes.

Ben Cardido connected with Zack Conley for a 43-yard TD pass and Mike Zarbaugh ran for a TD for the Blue Devils, who held Leetonia to 62 total yards.

Mineral Ridge 28, Southern 7

MINERAL RIDGE

Nick Ferguson ran for 101 yards and three touchdowns, while Mac White threw for another 119 yards in Mineral Ridge’s win over Southern. Gabe Richards did his part for the Indians (1-7, 1-4 ITCL Tier Two) rushing for 159 yards. However Sam Kooyman, who had a 53-yards touchdown run, and the Rams (3-5, 2-3 ITCL Tier Two) were too much to handle.

Canfield 38, Struthers 20

STRUTHERS

In a game where both teams ran the football extremely well, Canfield limited its mistakes to earn an important division victory over Struthers. CJ Frost ran for 98 yards and a touchdown and quarterback Aaron Jenkins ran for another 94 yards and two scores to lift the Cardinals (4-4, 1-2 All-American Conference American Division).

AJ Musolino led all rushers with 133 yards and two touchdowns, but the Wildcats (4-4, 1-2) coughed up the ball three times. Christian Nemeth also added six catches for 34 yards in the loss.

Campbell 17, Champion 16

CHAMPION

Yanni Koullias ran 22 times for 45 yards and a touchdown and also kicked a 24-yard field goal and two extra points to lead Campbell (1-7, 1-5 AAC National).

Stephan Elash ran nine times for 107 yards and a TD for the Red Devils and completed 7 of 12 passes for 92 yards, including five to Edger Toledo for 77 yards.

Mason Brown ran for 82 yards and a TD and also caught a 9-yard TD pass from Brandon Allen with 1:15 left to lead Champion (1-7, 1-4), which missed its final extra point attempt. Nate Stahlman ran for 89 yards and Allen completed 6 of 17 passes for 72 yards.

Lakeview 31, Jefferson 20

CORTLAND

Nick Boldt carried 16 times for 139 yards and a touchdown and Andrew Grove added 54 yards and two TDs to lead Lakeview (5-3, 4-1 AAC National).

After Jefferson (6-2, 3-2) narrowed the deficit to 17-14 midway through the third quarter, Grove broke free for a 34-yard touchdown and Sean Rein added a 31-yard interception return for a TD over the span of two minutes to put the game away. Mike Mannella added 21 carries for 117 yards for the Bulldogs.

Jeremiah Knight ran for 112 yards and two TDs for Jefferson and Lucas Hitchcock added 67 yards rushing and 159 passing.

LaBrae 61, Newton Falls 15

NEWTON FALLS

Keevon Harris ran twice for 112 yards and two TDs and also caught a 32-yard TD pass from Justin Jenkins to lead LaBrae (5-3, 2-3 AAC National), which led 47-0 at halftime.

Jenkins completed 4 of 5 passes for 52 yards and also ran four times for 109 yards and a TD. Arjay Oliver added 74 yards rushing and two TDs and Joe Percich also scored.

Josh Walters threw for 98 yards and a 33-yard TD pass for NF (1-7, 0-5), while Bill Wright added a 6-yard TD run.

Conneaut 27,

Brookfield 24

CONNEAUT

Nate Morrison had 125 yards on 16 carries for Brookfield, but two late fourth quarter touchdowns gave Conneaut the victory.

Quarterback Justin Myers found Alex Gerdes for a 34-yard score with a little more than three minutes left to get within four points.

Then, with 36 seconds left, he hit Gerdes again for a seven-yard game-winning touchdown for the Spartans. Augustus Necastro threw for 174 yards in the loss for the Warriors (4-4).

West Branch 21, Alliance 7

BELOIT

Corey Snyder completed 8 of 21 passes for 129 yards and a touchdown and also ran 15 times for 78 yards and a TD to lead West Branch (4-4, 3-2 Northeastern Buckeye Conference).

Mason Hughes ran 17 times for 52 yards and a TD and Jerian Thomas caught four passes for 74 yards and a touchdown for the Warriors.

Aeyron Williams threw for 125 yards and a 10-yard TD pass to Sarrick Sampson to lead Alliance (4-4, 2-3). He also ran for 90 yards on eight carries.

Carrollton 42, Salem 13

SALEM

Zade Deitz threw for 110 yards and two TDs and also ran for 131 yards and two more scores to lead Carrollton (5-3, 2-3 NBC), which led 21-0 at halftime.

Matt Weingart led Salem (2-6, 0-5) with 215 yards passing and two TDs. Blake Hochadel caught seven passes for 77 yards and a touchdown.

Wellsville 20, Sebring 7

WELLSVILLE

The Tigers improved to 6-2, 4-1 ITCL Tier Two, the Trojans fell to 4-4, 1-4. Details of this game were not reported.
