Staff report
WARREN
Two days after the South Range High self-reported a eligibility violation and forfeited a football game, a second Mahoning Valley high school announced Friday its program also used an ineligible player.
Warren Harding will forfeit a Sept. 5 victory over Howland and a Sept. 19 win over Maple Heights after school officials discovered and investigated a "potential eligibility concern" involving an athlete. Harding began the probe on Friday, Oct. 3 and concluded its investigation on Monday, Oct. 6.
Warren City Schools Superintendent Steve Chiaro — in a news release distributed Friday — said "irregularities" were discovered between the student's official high school transcript and two prior school districts he attended.
The OHSAA on Wednesday declared the athlete ineligible and that Harding must forfeit all victories in which he participated this season.
The Raiders had defeated Howland, 14-7. They beat Maple Heights, 26-6. The forfeits make Harding's record 1-6, including a 10-7 loss at Euclid on Friday night.
South Range (4-3, 2-2 Inter Tri-County League, Tier One) forfeited its 49-7 victory over East Palestine after it was discovered an ineligible player participated.
Raiders coach Dan Yeagley and offensive coordinator and athletic director Wayne Allegretto were placed on leave Wednesday and did not participate in a 52-28 win at United on Friday night.
South Range announced Friday night that both men were reinstated effective today.
