Hubbard junior cites coaches, geography for making decision

With his high school career only halfway over, Hubbard junior running back George Hill has already decided where he is going to play at the next level.

Hill, who ran for more than 1,200 yards and had 17 touchdowns for the Eagles last season, has verbally committed to Ohio State University to play for the Buckeyes.

Hubbard head coach Brian Hoffman says the Buckeyes have had eyes on Hill for a little while.

“He had a couple of visits down there,” Hoffman said. “The coaching staff has taken an interest in him. They’ve been to Hubbard multiple times to visit with him. As long as that’s the right decision for George and his family, then obviously, we are excited for him.”

Hill said a couple different factors went into him being the first 2016 commit for the Buckeyes.

“Staying in the state and where I most feel comfortable,” Hill said. “I felt more comfortable there [Ohio State] than any other place.”

Hill had a few out-of-state offers but he wanted to stay close to people he knew.

“Leaving the state made me feel more uncomfortable,” Hill said. “I also have family in Columbus.”

For Hill, it was the attitude of the Ohio State coaching staff that set them apart from the other schools.

“They’re about business when it comes to football; they don’t play around,” Hill said. “I just want to get better myself so that will definitely make me better.”

Hill’s teammate, senior lineman Matt Jones, has already verbally committed to West Virginia and teammate L.J. Scott has offers from several major schools, including Ohio State, Michigan State and Alabama. He has not committed anywhere yet.

The Eagles went 12-1 last season, losing in the state tournament to Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary.
