The Canfield High football team had a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter before falling to Akron Ellet, 16-14, on Friday.

Andrew Neal kicked a game-winning 34-yard field goal with nine seconds remaining for the Orangemen (4-0).

Kimu Kim gave the Cardinals (0-4) a 7-0 lead with a third-quarter touchdown run of 18 yards then added another on a one-yard sneak.

With about nine minutes remaining, Ellet quarterback Jake Fisher found David Smethers for a 69-yard touchdown. He then hit Jake Williams for another score with a minute remaining.

Lakeview 36, Champion 28

Jake Pishotti scored three touchdown to lead the Bulldogs (1-3) past conference rival Champion.

With 3:07 left in the first quarter, Pishotti caught a 37-yard touchdown pass from Angelo Marino. They scored a 31-yarder three minutes later.

Midway through the third quarter, Pishotti ran 23 yards to give the Bulldogs a 22-8 lead.

Champion running back Brandon McFarland broke off a 46-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and a 3-yarder as time ticked away in the fourth. McFarland rushed for 158 yards for the Flashes (2-2).

Girard 47, Newton Falls 7

James Cupan and Nick Cardiero both scored three times for the Indians (2-2) in the All-American Conference National Division opener. Girard led 20-0 after one quarter and 41-0 at halftime.

Cupan gained 110 yards rushing and Cardiero passed for 274 yards. The Tigers (1-3) have lost three in a row,.

The Eagles (3-1) churned out 285 rushing yards in their shutout road win. Jason Simon, Jason Boykins and Javon Gaiter each scored two touchdowns and GlenOak quarterback Austin White hit J’Mon Wells with a 45 yard touchdown pass in the second quarter.

Boardman (0-4) managed 109 rushing yards on 47 carries.

The Tigers (3-1) did not get on the scoreboard until late in this defensive struggle when Matthew Leach kicked a 34-yard field goal. Ryan Kohler then raced 88 yards for a touchdown for the clinching score in the Inter Tri-County League Tier One opening game. Columbiana is 0-4 on the season.

Lisbon 54, East Palestine 6

Brandon Barnes ran for 147 yards and a touchdown as Lisbon (2-2, 1-0 ITCL Tier One) rolled up 356 yards rushing.

Tylor Thompson added 83 yards rushing and Josh Liberati threw for two touchdowns and ran for another.

Nick Monteleone ran for 65 yards to lead the Bulldogs (0-4, 0-1), who lost four fumbles.

United 34, Southern 0

United running back Mike Martin scored three touchdowns and amassed 170 yards rushing in the Eagles’ rout of Southern.

With 10:26 left in the second quarter and his team ahead 7-0, United quarterback Garrett Beech hit receiver Bryan Weyent on a 45-yard pass. Two minutes later, Martin scored his second touchdown to put the game out of reach.

United (2-2) held Southern (1-3) to 147 yards of total offense and Southern all-purpose threat Jared Shilot to 63 total yards.

McDonald 53, Sebring 6

The Blue Devils (3-1) used a 33-6 second quarter to blow open the ITCL Tier Two opener. Zach Conley and Jake Reckard both ran for two touchdowns for McDonald and Matt Morrell gained 120 yards.

Jerry Billingsley gained 91 yards for Sebring (2-2) and ran for its only score.

Wellsville 20, Leetonia 17

WELLSVILLE

Jordan Sloan hit Marcus Moxley with a 16-yard pass to lift the Tigers (4-0) in overtime in the ITCL Tier Two opener.

Leetonia (2-2) took the lead on a 25-yard field goal by Josh Faulkner, one of four 3-pointers he made in the game. The lead changed hands twice in the second half before Faulkner’s 25-yard kick sent it into overtime in the fourth quarter. Zack Van Giesen ran 155 yards for the Bears.

Warren Harding 35, Maple Heights 20

John Coleman, Lamar Carmichael and Kane Murry led the Raiders over the Mustangs. Maple Heights grabbed an early 6-0 lead on a short touchdown run, but the visitors quickly responded with a 20-yard touchdown pass from Carmichael to Coleman.

The Raiders could not tack on the extra point, however, leaving the score at 6-6. Harding continued the offensive onslaught with a pair of touchdown runs by Coleman and Murry.

The Mustangs refused to quit, however, answering with a short touchdown run of their own to narrow the score to 20-14 at halftime. The contest remained close throughout the third quarter, as each squad notched a touchdown and a two-point conversion, making the score 28-20 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Raiders scored the only touchdown in the fourth quarter. Carmichael tossed a 28-yard touchdown pass to Nate Walls to seal the game.

Marlington 52, West Branch 0

Beloit

Marlington avenged last season’s defeat at the hands of the Warriors with a resounding road victory.

Marlington quarterback Shawn Kirk threw one touchdown pass and ran for three more, including an 82-yard run and a 66-yard run. A minute into the game, Kirk hit receiver Chris Andrews for a 55-yard score and the rout was on.

Bryce Butcher’s six yard run in the second quarter was the only score the Warriors (0-4) could muster. Marlington (3-1) held the Warriors to 106 total yards while producing 549 with 418 coming by the run.

Louisville 41, Salem 28

LOUISVILLE

Connor Zwick rushed for two touchdowns and threw a 5-yard scoring pass to Andy Minster for the Leopards (4-0, 1-0 Northeastern Buckeye Conference). Walter Schrock’s 13 carries for 143 yards included a 54-yard touchdown. For the Quakers (2-2, 0-1), Matt Weingart threw two touchdown passes and rushed for another. Haedan Panezott rushed for 87 yards including a 60-yard touchdown.

Southington 34, Open Door Christian 0

Dillon Nezbeth gained 186 yards and Chris Warnick ran for two touchdowns to lead a dominating Southington rushing attack. The Wildcats (3-1) rolled up 393 yards on the ground and outscored the Patriots (0-4) 28-0 in the second half.
