PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
KImu Kim
CanfieLd
Player fact: Kim had a night to remember, rushing for 497 yards on 52 carries, and an Ohio-record nine touchdowns in a 70-62 double-overtime win over Niles. He jumped from 15th place to second among area leaders for total rushing yards on the season.
Quotable: “I wasn’t tired because my adrenaline was rushing, so I really wasn’t tired and probably could’ve gone another overtime or two, but we didn’t need it. My line did such a good job that I really didn’t have that much to do, just run the ball. I’m just going to keep doing what I’ve been doing all year and maybe a game like that will come again, but I’m not gonna change anything. It feels really good to finally get a win and feel happy on a Monday morning at school instead of just sitting there learning.”
Evan Croutch
BOARDMAN
Player fact: Croutch recorded a team-high 16 tackles and also added a sack in Boardman’s first win of the season, a 7-0 shutout of Perry. He also converted the game’s only score with a 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, snapping a nine-game losing streak.
Quotable: “It was very important for us, because our defense has been struggling a little bit towards the beginning of the year ... We’ve kept fighting this whole time and now we’re where we need to be for this year. [Coach] has talked to me about leadership, and I played a little bit last year on defense and I’m the one who’s gotta lead the whole defense. It was a lot of fun because we went and scored, and then going over to defense it was fun because we were stopping them the whole time.”
