FRIDAY GAMES || Quinlan helps Brookfield remain undefeated

HUDSON

Brookfield quarterback Jeremy Quinlan rushed for three touchdowns and passed for another to lead the Warriors past Western Reserve Academy 53-23 on Friday.

Quinlan scored on runs covering 13, 4 and 7 yards. His 4-yard touchdown pass was to Collin Harkulich. Quinlan rushed 12 times for 124 yards.

Ryan Mosora carried the ball 20 times for 217 yards for Brookfield (6-0). His touchdowns covered 8 and 41 yards. He also returned an interception 30 yards for a score.

The Warriors are ranked seventh in the state in this week’s Associated Press poll of Division IV teams. They are first in the computer ratings for Region 13.

Western Reserve Academy quarterback Austin Petsche completed 23 of 42 passes for 275 yards and three touchdowns.

Sugarcreek 42, Youngstown Christian 25

SUGARCREEK

The Eagles fell from the ranks of the unbeaten as Pirates quarterback Tyler Walter threw for 239 yards and four touchdowns.

Youngstown Christian (5-1) was led by Darren Townsend, who had an 87-yard kickoff return for a TD and caught a 25-yard scoring pass.

Cathedral Prep 47, Ursuline 7

Erie, Pa.

Ursuline’s pass defense was shredded by Cathedral Prep quarterback Damion Terry who passed for 310 yards and five touchdowns. He also scored two touchdowns himself. Jermaine Williams rushed for 90 yards for Ursuline (3-3), including a 65-yard scoring run.

All-American Conference

Jefferson 43, Newton Falls 20

JEFFERSON

Tony Chiacchiero passed for 169 yards and threw touchdown passes to Brett Powers (15 and 25 yards) and Kyle Ashburn (62) for Jefferson (4-2, 2-2 All-American Conference National).

For the Tigers (1-5, 1-2), Brandon Fuller rushed 12 times for 163 yards and scored a 33-yard touchdown. Chris Gregory ran for touchdowns covering 5 and 6 yards.

Hubbard 62, East Liverpool 19

HUBBARD

Darnell Tate caught four touchdown passes from Brandon Harb and Larry Scott and Harb ran for two scores as Hubbad (4-2) pounded the Potters.

The point total is a season-high for the Eagles, whose previous best was 56 against Cleveland Collinwood.

A fully healthy Scott, a sophomore, had 16 rushes for 206 yards, while Tate had seven catches for 166 yards. Harb was 8 of 11 for 175 passing yards with no interceptions.

The win followed Hubbard’s back-to-back losses to Struthers and Howland.

Lakeview 28, LaBrae 21

LEAVITTSBURG

Lakeview opened a 20-7 halftime lead and held off winless LaBrae to remain unbeaten in AAC National Division play. The Bulldogs (4-2, 3-0) got a touchdown pass and a touchdown run from quarterback Erich Schmitt to open the lead. Elijah Henderson also scored in the first half for Lakeview and ran for 114 yards on the night.

Justin Journey added the clinching touchdown midway through the final quarter. LaBrae (0-6, 0-4) got two scoring runs from Carl Brown.

Champion 41, Girard 19

GIRARD

Michael Cyrus rushed for 179 yards and three touchdowns as Champion (3-3, 2-1 AAC National) broke open a close game with a 20-6 advantage in the final quarter. The Golden Flashes led 14-13 at halftime and a 65-yard scoring run by Jason Cyrus just 11 seconds into the third quarter made it 21-13.

Michael Cyrus then ran for two of his scores in the final quarter and quarterback James Naylor added one of his two touchdown runs. Quarterback Nick Cardiero combined with receiver Evan Delbene for two of Girard’s touchdowns. Cardiero finished with 259 yards through the air for the Indians (0-6, 0-3).

Lake erie League

Warren Harding 43, E. Cleveland Shaw 20

WARREN

Quarterback Lamar Carmichael completed 11 of 16 passes for 146 yards for the Raiders (5-1, 3-0 Lake Erie League). He scored on a 5-yard run and hit Lamar Freeman with a 12-yard scoring pass.

LeShun Daniels rushed 25 times for 187 yards and scored on runs covering 11 and 16 yards. The Raiders are the number nine team in this week’s computer ratings for Div. I Region 1.

For East Cleveland Shaw (2-4, 0-3), Jacob King passed for 205 yards and three touchdowns.

Inter Tri-County League

United 42, Lisbon 27

HaNOVERTON

Garrett Beech passed for two touchdowns: to Tyler Lewis and Mike Martin, and Martin also ran for two more scores for United (4-2).

Martin’s 19 rushes netted 175 yards, while Beech had 26 carries for 105 yards as the Golden Eagles out-gained Lisbon in total yards, 399 to 230. Beech was 8 of 16 for 112 yards in the air.

Brandon Branes ran for three touchdowns and had 187 yards on 26 attempts for Lisbon (2-4).

South Range 68, Jackson-Milton 22

BEAVER TWP.

Joe Alessi and Jake Arsuffi both had two touchdowns for South Range which had seven different players cross the goalline in a game that included 84 rushing plays.

Senior quarterback Ross Stoffer was 5 of 12 for 110 yards with one interception for the Raiders, who lost to Warren JFK and Campbell to start the season before winning four in a row.

Alessi, a sophomore halfback, had three rushes for 81 yards; junior halfback Billy Goodall had five carries for 76 yards and freshman substitute quarterback Greg Dunham had 66 yards on two carries.

Cole Krumpak kicked seven PATs for the winners.

Thomas Gatewood, Chuckie Anderson and Nate Kramer scored for Jackson-Milton (0-5, 0-2), whose top runners were Tyler Shaffer (30 attempts for 87 yards) and Joey Burnside (16 for 77).

Leetonia 10, McDonald 0

LEETONIA

Senior Brandon Dattilio did all the scoring by catching a 45-yard pass from sophomore Trent Ferry and by kicking a field goal and extra point for Leetonia (4-2).

As part of the Bears’ 192 rushing yards, Ferry carried 11 times for 89 and junior Zack Van Giesen ran 18 times for 73.

P.J. Mansky had eight carries for 64 yards for McDonald (2-4), which gained 83 yards on the ground and 75 through the air.

Columbiana 26, Southern Local 14

COLUMBIANA

Senior wingback Britton Steiginga had three touchdown runs and finished with 13 carries for 126 for Columbiana, which has won five straight after a season-opening 37-33 loss to Crestview.

As a safety, Steiginga had one of three interceptions that benefited the Clippers.

Senior OLB Connor Richardson returned an interception 44 yards to the 5-yard line before Steiginga scored from 7 yards out in the second quarter and Brandon Hacker had the other pickoff.

For Southern (4-2), which won its first two games, lost the third then won the next two before Friday’s loss, senior QB Luke Griffith passed for 229 yards.

Senior WR J.J. Napierkowski had 13 catches for 171 yards. Aside from his three interceptions, Griffith completed 22 of 40 passes.

Mineral Ridge 28, East Palestine 12

EAST PALESTINE

Devine Redding rushed 10 times for 102 yards and two touchdowns and Mineral Ridge jumped out to a 21-0 lead en route to the ITCL Tier One victory.

John Baker added 75 yards on 12 carries with a TD and Casey Porter added a 55-yard TD run for the Rams (3-3, 2-1), who were tied 0-0 at halftime. John Baker had 76 yards passing and 75 on the ground.

For East Palestine (0-6, 0-3), Luke Cope threw for 211 yards and a TD and Derek Smith rushed for 60 yards and a touchdown.

Western Reserve 28, Lowellville 21

LOWELLVILLE

Western Reserve (4-2, 3-0 ITCL-2) turned a 14-7 deficit into a 28-14 lead on three touchdown passes by Nick Allison. Seth Stevens ran for 122 yards and a touchdown for Lowellville (1-5, 1-2).

Py Valley 49, Mathews 0

VIENNA

Grant Nowakowski completed three of his five passes for 126 yards and three touchdowns to Tim Cross (20, 99 and 7 yards) for Pymatuning Valley (2-4, 1-0 Northeastern Athletic Conference). Quinton Ratliff rushed six times for 116 yards. One was a 75-yard touchdown.

For the Mustangs (1-5, 0-1), Austin Arnal rushed 23 times for 138 yards.

Ledgemont 28, Southington 14

Jordan Dickey rushed 37 times for 246 yards and two touchdowns for Southington (2-4), which was outscored 14-0 in the second half by Ledgemont (2-4).

Northeastern Buckeye Conference

Canton South 46, Salem 15

CANTON

Josh Lyon completed 19 of 27 passes for 338 yards with Noah Mallen catching five for 160 as Canton South (5-1) rolled.

Haedan Panezott scored on a 63-yard run and had seven carries for 78 yards for Salem (0-6). Marcus Crittenden’s 85 kickoff return and Jake Carner’s conversion run accounted for the Quakers’ other points.

West Branch 35, Minerva 7

Brenden Wells rushed 24 times for 231 yards and four TDs to lead the Warriors (3-3, 3-0) in a Northeastern Buckeye Conference game. Quarterback Troy James adding 76 yards rushing with a TD and 60 yards passing. Josey Riley threw for 107 yards to lead Minerva (2-4, 1-2).
