The Brookfield High football team is a family. If you don’t believe it, just look at junior running back Joe Clark.

The word “family” is tattooed on his upper right arm.

“I had to OK it for him to have it,” Warriors coach Randy Clark, Joe’s father, said. “But it’s meaningful. This team is a close-knit family. These guys continue to stick together and it’s phenomenal.”

Brookfield continued its hot start with a 35-0 statement-making blowout of Warren JFK.

“We got something special going on,” Randy said. “It means a lot to us. We beat three good teams in a row with Campbell, Struthers and then JFK. Hopefully, it continues. I think every week we’re opening up some eyes.

“I don’t know if there is still any non-believers out there, but I’m pretty sure we’re for real.”

The Warriors tallied 432 total yards. Ryan Mosora ran for 203 yards on 18 carries and two scores, while Jeremy Quinlan added 108 yards on 12 carries. Quinlan threw for 72 yards, completing 7 of 15 passes.

“We have a two-headed monster back there when you’re defending Quinlan and Mosora,” Randy said. “I’m glad I’m on this side of the ball and not the other.”

Mosora’s first touch of the night ended in a 73-yard touchdown run. He also caught three passes for 21 yards. Clark had 18 yards on five carries and two touchdown runs.

“In practice we make each other better,” Joe said of him and Mosora. “We push each other, we tease each other, we mess with each other. It’s great working together.”

The Warriors (5-0) have put up 227 points this season, an average of more than 45 per game. Yet the most striking facet of their attack might just be the defense.

Brookfield limited the Eagles (4-1) to just 91 yards, 40 of which came on their first drive. JFK earned just one first down in the second half, had -11 yards of total offense in the second half and committed three turnovers.

Quinlan and Collin Harkulich each had an interception and Don McFarland recovered a fumble.

“Offensively, we’re kind of awesome,” David Jamieson said. “But defensively we’re just as good. We executed and we don’t let anything get to us. We stick with what we’re going to do.”

Coach Clark said his kids are always “relaxed.”

“They love the game and they love getting things done,” he said.

JFK quarterback Dom Naples was sacked seven times. He was 7 of 14 through the air for 80 yards. Chad Zallow picked off a Quinlan pass early in the third quarter.

Randy Clark, a 1982 Brookfield graduate, was inducted into the school’s athletic hall of fame during a halftime ceremony. His son said an undefeated record, like his recently inked body, wouldn’t be possible without strong summer workouts.

“That’s when we all came together,” Joe said. “Like I said, we’re a family.”
