Mooney jumps to 6th in Division 3 AP poll

Cardinal Mooney’s big win over the previous No. 1-ranked team in Division III wasn’t enough to vault the Cardinals into the top five of this week’s Associated Press poll.

Mooney (2-2), which defeated Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary 41-15, jumped from ninth to sixth in the Div. III poll, while the Irish fell to ninth. Unbeaten Niles was 13th.

Undefeated Fitch jumped from ninth to seventh in Div. I with one first-place vote.

In Division IV, Brookfield stayed at No. 8 following its big win over Struthers. The Warriors picked up two first-place votes.

Ursuline dropped from second to seventh in the Div. V rankings after falling to Zanesville (No. 4 in the Div. II poll).

Crestview is sixth in Div. V with a first-place vote.

In Div. VI, Warren JFK is eighth, jumping into the top 10 following a win over XX last weekend. The Eagles also earned one first-place vote. Unbeaten Youngstown Christian is 11th.

No area teams were ranked in Div. II.
