Plan to restore landmark Paramount facade in jeopardy
The city’s plans to maintain the facade of the long-vacant landmark Paramount Theater could be in jeopardy. Formerly known as Liberty Theater, the venue reopened as the Paramount in July 1929 when Youngstown had a bustling downtown anchored by two major department stores, a host of other retail shops and several theaters. This 1956 line to get into the West Federal Street theater stretched around the corner past Fanny Farmer Candies onto Hazel Street. In the hey-dey of motion pictures, block-long queues were standard at all the downtown theaters most Saturdays and Sundays.
