BROOKFIELD

After scoring two touchdowns in 12 seconds just before halftime, the Brookfield football team poured it on in the second half to defeat Campbell Memorial, 58-20, on Friday night.

Brookfield (3-0) was led by senior quarterback Jeremy Quinlan, who ran for the Warriors’ first two touchdowns and tossed a 59-yard touchdown pass, while compiling 159 yards of offense. He completed 5 of 9 passes for 122 yards and rushed for 37 yards.

“This was my revenge game,” said Quinlan, who broke his collarbone against the Red Devils last season.

“When the run game was there, I took advantage of the run game,” Quinlan said. “When the pass game was there, I took the advantage there.”

Ryan Mosora, a senior running back, led Brookfield’s second-half attack, scoring two fourth-quarter touchdowns and rushing for a game-high 122 yards.

“We all came out here and gave it our best,” said two-way senior lineman Gary Hiner. “Offensively, we just stayed with what we had planned — run the ball down their throats. And the same thing again next week. We’re not going to be stopped.”

Brookfield coach Randy Clark said his squad varied its offense against Campbell’s defense.

“We were able to move the ball because they were loosened up a bit,” he said.

Clark said two touchdowns 19 seconds apart late in the second quarter gave the Warriors momentum.

“That was really a turning point of the game,” he said. “Our kids reacted well.”

The two squads nearly came to blows late in the game. Clark said the game referees “should have taken control of that early.”

Campbell drew first blood in the game, recovering a fumble of the opening kickoff. Senior quarterback Brandon Reyes smashed 1 yard into the end zone for a 6-0 lead.

Reyes was the Red Devils’ main weapon, passing for 165 yards and rushing for 77 more.

Quinlan scored on 3-yard run and kicked an extra point to give Brookfield a lead it never relinquished. He later scored on a 5-yard run to make it 14-6.

Reyes threw a 71-yard touchdown to sophomore Aaron Jackson as the Red Devils cut it 14-12, but then came the game’s key sequence.

With 58 seconds to play in the first half, senior Colin Harkulich caught a pass from Quinlan and raced 41 yards for a touchdown.

Just 12 seconds later, Brookfield senior Ron Kirila recovered a Campbell fumble on the ensuing kickoff and ran 20 yards for another score. Mosora ran for a two-point conversion and a 30-12 Brookfield lead at halftime.

Junior Joe Clark’s 1-yard run made it 37-12 early in the third quarter. Mosora ran for two touchdown and freshman Augustus Necastro added another for the Warriors.
