LEAVITTSBURG

The Brookfield High School football team wrapped up an undefeated season Friday night by defeating LaBrae, 48-17.

“It’s a lifelong dream,” said coach Randy Clark.

Clark added the victory gives his team momentum going into the playoffs.

“We’ve got a lot of momentum,” he said, “but we’ve got a lot of work to do.”

A key to both the victory over LaBrae and the upcoming playoffs is senior running back Ryan Mosara, Clark said. Mosara gained 181 yards Friday night on 19 carries and scored two touchdowns.

“We gotta make sure we treat him right,” Clark said. “We got to give him the ball. He had a good night tonight.”

“The blocking in front of me” was the big reason for his success in rushing the ball, Mosara said.

In the third quarter, Mosara scored a touchdown on the longest play of the night, a 74-yard run.

Another key player for the Vikings (10-0) was senior Colin Harkulich, who grabbed three interceptions against LaBrae (1-9) and scored the game’s final touchdown on a 25-yard pass from senior quarterback Jeremy Quinlan.

“I kept dropping back, reading the receiver, reading the quarterback’s eyes,” Harkulich said when asked to explain his interceptions.

Quinlan completed 8 of 12 passes for 149 yards. LaBrae quarterback Peyton Aldridge, a junior, completed 18 of 43 passes for 209 yards, but threw three interceptions.

The Viking scored on their first possession. Mosara fielded the opening kickoff on his own 20 and returned the ball to midfield.

The Warriors completed a five-play, 50-yard drive, with Mosara scoring on a 23-yard run. Quinlan kicked the extra point.

The Vikings almost pulled even when junior Marcel Richardson caught a 20-yard pass from junior quarterback Peyton Aldridge. But the extra-point kick failed, leaving Brookfield with the lead, 7-6.

In the second quarter, Brookfield scored two touchdowns, while LaBrae managed only a 21-yard field goal by senior Ian Simmons.

Brookfield scored two touchdowns in the third quarter and two more in the fourth quarter, while LaBrae was held scoreless in the third quarter and scored a single touchdown in the fourth quarter.

“It’s almost like a mirror for the year,” said LaBrae coach Bill Bohren. “We played well in stretches, but we had a tough time shutting them down.

“We knew they are good,” Bohren added. “We knew we had to play a complete A game, and we didn’t. We hope they go a long way in the playoffs.”
