A 35-point first quarter lead on Friday was enough for the Girard High football team to remain unbeaten.

The Indians (5-0, 1-0 All-American Conference Blue Tier) went on to defeat Champion, 55-16.

Ahmad Eggleston scored four rushing touchdowns and finished with 147 yards on 14 attempts.

Quarterback Dan Graziano threw for 138 yards and ran for another 169, including a 59-yard dash.

Branden Byrd caught four passes for 66 yards and a touchdown.

Justin Rasey led Champion (1-4, 0-2) in rushing with 95 yards. James Naylor threw for 50 yards.

Brookfield 34, Newton Falls 19

NEWTON FALLS

Ryan Mosora ran 30 times for 337 yards and scored twice for unbeaten Brookfield (5-0).

Newton Falls had a 14-7 lead until Brookfield’s Mark Hiner recovered a fumble in the end zone followed by Brandon Mosora’s PAT.

Then, with 19 seconds remaining before the half, Colin Harkulich caught a 15-yard pass from Brandon Mosora to put the Warriors ahead for good, 21-14.

Newton Falls added five points in the third quarter on a safety and a field goal. Brookfield didn’t put the game away until it scored 13 fourth-quarter points.

Newton Falls quarterback Matt Brazin connected on 12 of 25 passes for 158 yards and two interceptions.

Howland 50, Carrick 0

HOWLAND

Deveon Smith rushed seven times for 120 yards and three touchdowns for the Tigers (5-0), the number four team in the state in this week’s Associated Press poll of Division II teams.

Smith’s scores covered 12, 25 and 10 yards.

Brandon Miller scored touchdowns on runs of 6 and 2 yards while Kenny Pozega returned a punt 55 yards and Connor Gilmour kicked a 37-yard field goal. Howland is the number two team in the Region 5 computer playoff ratings.

Howland limited Carrick to 60 yards rushing on 21 carries.

Canfield 21, Dayton Dunbar 7

Ben Angelo and Bryce Jackson rushed for 107 and 67 yards, respectively for the Cardinals (4-1).

Quarterback Jordan Italiano got Canfield on the board first with a four yard run. He finished 4-of-8 through the air on 75 yards. Joe Tuchek was the leading receiver with two catches, 51 yards and a score. Charles McDonald accounted for 112 yards on the ground for Dunbar.

Jefferson 19, Liberty 12

JEFFERSON

Falcons quarterback Connor Cleveland rushed 11 times for 126 yards including a 93-yard run. Jon Hubler scored the winning points after intercepting a Michael Moamis pass and returning it 51 yards.

Andy Santiago scored the other touchdown on a 1-yard run.

For the Leopards (0-5), Moamis threw a 28-yard scoring toss to Doan McKinney and scored on a 1-yard run. Sharron Walls rushed 28 times for 147 yards.

Oak Glen (W.Va.) 14 Beaver Local 8

LISBON

Oak Glen’s senior quarterback Lucas McDowell rushed for 139 of his game-high 165 yards in the second half and added a third quarter touchdown to lead the Bears (4-1) to a 14-8 victory.

McDowell also had an interception late in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Beaver Local’s defense held the Bears to just 56 total yards in the first half, going in with a 2-0 lead at halftime.

Offensively, Beaver Local (1-4) was unable to gain a completion or score any points. The Beavers other points came on a 90-yard kickoff return by Justin Osborn.

No other individual stats were provided by either team.
