Girard made the biggest move of area teams in the weekly Associated Press high school football poll.

The Indians (4-0), who defeated Newton Falls 55-24 in their All-American Conference, moved from No. 17 in last week’s Division IV poll to No. 10 in Division VI.

Girard, which visits Champion on Friday night, is one of 14 area teams in this week’s poll, including five in the top 10.

The Indians are joined in Div. IV by Brookfield (4-0) at No. 16 and LaBrae (3-1) at No. 18.

Western Reserve (4-0), which defeated Leetonia 48-28 on Friday night, moved up to spots, to No. 3, in Div. VI. The Blue Devils are joined in the small-school poll by Warren JFK (2-2) in 19th and Youngstown Christian (3-1) in 20th.

Howland (4-0), which edged Canfield 30-28 on Friday night, moved up one spot to No. 4 in Div. II. The Tigers play host to Carrick of Pittsburgh, Pa., on Friday night. The Cardinals (3-1) slipped one spot to No. 10 in Div. II.

In Div. III, Cardinal Mooney (2-2) slipped four spots to No. 10 after losing to Mentor Lake Catholic 27-22, while five teams are listed in Div. V — Southern (4-0) and Springfield (4-0) are tied for No. 12, Columbiana (4-0) is No. 14, Ursuline (1-3) is No. 15, and Crestview (3-1) is No. 21.

Five area schools made their first appearance in the poll, and two — Austintown Fitch and Campbell Memorial —fell out.
