Mineral Ridge surprises McDonald

MINERAL RIDGE
Devine Redding rushed eight times for 143 yards including a 64-yard touchdown on Friday to lead the Mineral Ridge High football team to a 32-27 victory over McDonald.
Casey Porter tacked on nine rushes for 131 yards and three touchdowns for the Rams (1-2).
For McDonald (1-2), Randy Walters carried 13 times for 68 yards and a score.
Mineral Ridge led 20-7 at the break.
Columbiana 27, Newton Falls 21
COLUMBIANA
The Clippers scored 14 fourth-quarter points to prevail.
Austin Barbado did the damage for the Clippers in the final period by rushing for touchdowns of 20 and 21 yards.
Barbado threw a TD pass to Jake DeJong in the first quarter and Barbado hit Britton Steigingar for a 19-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Barbado finished with 144 yards rushing on 23 carries.
Matt Brazin had two TD passes to Cody Dillon for Newton Falls and Brazin was 16 of 30 for 192 yards. C.J. Gregory had seven catches for 97 yards for the Tigers and rushed 15 times for 46 yards.
Lisbon 28, Wellsville 18
WELLSVILLE
Zac Barnes rushed for 127 yards and scored four touchdowns for the Blue Devils (1-2). He scored on runs covering 3, 15, 15 and 16 yards.
Quarterback Drew Sweeney rushed for 55 yards and passed for 27 as the Blue Devils delivered to head coach Jim Tsilmos his first victory since ending his retirement.
For the Tigers (1-2), Marcus Moxley caught a 45-yard scoring pass from Jake Reed and returned a punt 50 yards for a score.
Jackson-Milton 25, Grand Valley 20
NORTH JACKSON
John Gherardi caught a 94-yard TD pass and ran eight times for 48 yards and another score to help Jackson-Milton (2-1).
Zach Nagy completed just that one pass on the night but ran for a game-clinching 1-yard touchdown with 1:29 left. Cody Vaughn added an 80-yard kickoff return for a score.
Grand Valley’s Stanley Sirrine caught an 8-yard TD pass from Kyle Orgovan with 14 seconds left to end the scoring. Austin Drenski (15 carries, 83 yards) and Adam Moodt (23 carries, 81 yards) helped Grand Valley roll up 252 yards rushing.
Southern 42, Toronto 15
TORONTO
Zack Puckett scored three touchdowns and Kyle Exline two for the Indians (3-0). Puckett scored on runs of 27, 2 and 84 yards. He rushed 18 times for 206 yards.
Exline caught scoring tossed from Luke Griffith covering 5 and 33 yards. Griffith passed for 223 yards by completing 15 of 20 attempts. He also threw an 11-yard touchdown to J.J. Naplerowski.
Exline caught five passes for 107 yards.
Rootstown 9, United 0
HANOVERTON
P.J. Sorboro’s 14-yard scoring catch from S. Todd for the game’s only touchdown. J. Langston kicked a 27-yard field goal.
For the Eagles (0-3), Justin Harsh passed for 67 yards and Garrett Beech for 57. Beech was the leading rusher with 107 yards on 18 carries.
Newbury 21, Sebring 20
NEWBURY
Alex Kania rushed 30 times for 193 yards including a 2-yard touchdown. Cameron Miller rushed 13 times for 87 yards and scored on a 1-yard run.
The Trojans dropped to 1-2.
