Western Reserve ranked second in state

Staff report
The undefeated Western Reserve High football team is considered to be second in the state in this week’s Associated press poll of Division VI schools.
Two All-American Conference Red Tier teams — Howland and Canfield — are fourth and eighth in Div. II, according to the survey by sports writers and broadcasters. Girard is seventh in Div. IV and Cardinal Mooney is ninth in Division III.
Western Reserve (6-0), which is looking for its first Inter Tri-County Tier Two championship, rolled over Sebring last Friday, 39-16. The Blue Devils’ next test will be Friday when they travel to Salineville to unbeaten Southern (6-0, 3-0).
Western Reserve trails Ledgemont (6-0), which received 17 first-place votes compared to seven for the Blue Devils.
Howland (6-0) has a share of the lead of the All-American Conference Red Tier.
The Tigers are 2-0 record against league opponents after beating Beaver Local, 41-7.
The Tigers will be at home against Poland (4-1, 1-0) in a first-place showdown. Maple Heights, Trotwood Madison and Avon earned more votes than Howland.
Canfield’s only loss was to the Tigers, 30-28, in Week Four. This week, Canfield (5-1, 0-1 Red Tier) travels to Beaver Local as the Cardinals look for their first league victory.
Girard (6-0, 2-0) has a share of the lead in the AAC Blue Tier after pummeling Hubbard, 48-13. Friday, the Indians will take on another AAC team from a larger tier when they host Niles.
Mooney (3-2) was idle last week and will travel to Pennsylvania’s Indian Valley for Friday’s game.
None of the area teams in Divisions I and V received enough votes to merit inclusion. Two Div. V teams — Columbiana (6-0) and Crestview (5-1) — will battle for first place on Friday.
