Erin Fetters assumes CAP command
Cadet Capt. Erin Fetters accepts the Youngstown ARS Composite Squadron’s guidon as a symbol of the change in command for the Civil Air Patrol unit. She assumed her new position as cadet commander during an Aug. 8 ceremony at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station.
VIENNA
Cadet Capt. Erin Fetters of Dorset, Ohio, assumed cadet command of the Youngstown ARS Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol on Aug. 8 during a ceremony at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station.
Fetters has been a member of the Civil Air Patrol since April 2008 and has held numerous leadership positions in the squadron, including cadet deputy commander. She has attended the Civil Air patrol Cadet officer School and Air Force Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training Familiarization Course and was a member of the squadron’s nationally ranked drill team.
She succeeds Cadet 1st Lt. Spencer Campbell of Warren.
The Youngstown ARS Squadron, comprising 64 cadets and 24 adult mentors, is one of the largest Civil Air Patrol squadrons in Ohio. It has been serving the Mahoning Valley for more than 50 years and meets Monday evenings at the air reserve station. The Civil Air Patrol is a nonprofit with 60,000 members nationwide which has been performing missions for America for 69 years. As the Air Force’s official auxiliary, it performs 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as assigned by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center, and was credited with saving more than 100 lives in fiscal year 2010.
Its volunteers also perform homeland security, disaster relief and counter-drug missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies.
Members also play a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to the more than 25,000 young people who are participating in CAP cadet programs.
