Irish remain No. 1 in AP poll

Ursuline continues to lead the area in the second weekly Associated Press high school football poll.
The Fighting Irish (4-0), who travel to Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin on Friday night, picked up 22 first-place votes (two more than last week) and 292 total points to outdistance No. 2 Versailles (4-0) with 243 points and three first-place votes in Division V in balloting by sports writers and broadcasters around the state.
In Div. II, Howland (4-0) moved up from ninth to seventh after defeating Canfield 16-0.
The Tigers, who play host to Carrick — a Div. II-size school from Pittsburgh, Pa., on Friday night, picked up two first-place votes and 116 total points to move up two spots, to seventh, from last week’s poll.
Cincinnati Turpin (4-0) continues to lead Div. II with 234 total points, followed by Columbus Marion-Franklin and Maple Heights.
In Div. I, Austintown Fitch moved up from 18th to 15th position with 16 points.
Cleveland Glenville and Cincinnati Colerain continue to hold down the first two spots, but Hilliard Davidson leaped over Lakewood St. Edward for the No. 3 spot.
In Div. III, Cardinal Mooney fell from third to ninth following a 41-31 loss to Columbus DeSales.
DeSales moved up from fourth to second in the poll, behind Steubenville and ahead of St. Bernard Roger Bacon.
Salem (No. 16) and Hubbard (No. 18) are also ranked this week.
Also receiving votes this week were Western Reserve (4-0), No. 13 in Div. VI, and Campbell Memorial (4-0), No. 18 in Div. IV.
