Niles, Lakeview, Salem win; Canfield falls by four

AKRON
Reggie Wells rushed 20 times for 325 yards to lead the Niles High football team to Friday’s 40-24 victory over Akron Coventry.
Wells also scored four touchdowns as the Red Dragons (2-1) took a 27-3 lead at halftime.
Tommy Duffy added nine carries for 79 yards for Niles, which had 429 yards rushing. Zack Bailey completed 6 of 13 passes for 134 yards, a TD and an interception, with Mike Watson catching four passes for 102 yards.
Desmond Jacobs carried six times for 75 yards and a touchdown and Zach Stover added 61 yards on six carries for Coventry (1-2).
Lakeview 35, Chaney 21
CORTLAND
Anthony Franco completed 18 of 32 passes for 222 yards and a touchdown to lead Lakeview (2-1), which led 35-14 at halftime.
David Soles rushed 10 times for 51 yards and a TD for the Bulldogs, while Ryan Scott caught two passes for 55 yards.
For Chaney (0-3), George LeFlore rushed 20 times for 214 yards and three touchdowns.
Dover 17, Canfield 13
DOVER
Logan Maholm caught a 66-yard touchdown pass from Derik Swinderman with 8:23 left in the fourth quarter to lift Dover (2-1).
The Cardinals’ Jordan Italiano carried 20 times for 105 yards and also completed 10 of 14 passes for 121 yards and two TDs.
Italiano’s 15-yard TD pass to Mike Ross with 26 seconds left gave Canfield its final lead, 13-10. His other TD pass was a 10-yarder to Jimmy Rousher, who caught four passes for 64 yards.
Canfield (1-2) fumbled seven times, losing two.
Swinderman completed 13 of 27 passes for 217 yards for Dover, with Maholm catching three for 103 yards.
Salem 21, West Branch 18
SALEM
Senior quarterback Trent Toothman scored on a 2-yard run with 5:54 remaining to help the Quakers rally past their rivals.
Toothman, a Ball State linebacker recruit, completed 10 of 16 passes for 118 yards, including four to Zach Penick for 88 yards. Toothman also carried 16 times for 83 yards and three TDs for the Quakers (3-0). Eric Bailey added nine carries for 43 yards and Austin Noel had six carries for 41 yards.
Scott Muckleroy had a 99-yard interception return for a touchdown midway through the third quarter that gave West Branch (1-2) its last lead. Troy James completed 16 of 22 passes for 153 yards, with Jake Mull catching nine passes for 59 yards.
Champion 33, Conneaut 0
CHAMPION
Jim Rasey rushed 20 times for 105 yards and a touchdown to lead Champion (2-1), which held Conneaut to just 25 yards rushing on 24 carries.
Travis Damron added 18 rushes for 91 yards and two scores as the Flashes rolled up 237 yards on the ground. Damron also had a 54-yard interception return for a touchdown and Shane Brown completed 4 of 10 passes for 46 yards, a TD and an interception.
Jake Simek completed 10 of 28 passes for 105 yards for Conneaut (1-2), but was picked off four times.
Hubbard 43, Southeast 7
Hubbard
Blake Novotny scored three touchdowns to lead the Eagles (2-1) giving Southeast their first loss of the year. Novotny had four carries for 129 yards, while quarterback Mike Lopuchovsky had six carries for 137 yards and was 7 of 16 for 94 yards.
Damian Pennington had the lone touchdown for Southeast (2-1) and had 98 yards on 24 carries.
