HANOVERTON
Trent Toothman threw for 89 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Salem High football team to Friday’s 31-25 victory over United.
Toothman also ran for 172 yards and another score.
Toothman completed 10 of 13 passes, including two to Trent Kenreigh for 55 yards. Eric Bailey added 58 yards rushing on eight carries as the Quakers (2-0) took a 31-13 lead with six minutes remaining.
Josh McLaughlin completed 19 of 29 passes for 303 yards and two TDs for United (1-1). He also ran 26 times for 97 yards and two TDs, including a 4-yarder with 33 seconds left that brought the Eagles within six.
Ryan Powell caught nine passes for 128 yards and two TDs.
East Palestine 20, Wellsville 0
WELLSVILLE
Quarterback Mike Salyers threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Derek Smith and scored on a 14-yard run for the Bulldogs (1-1).
Jared Knopp scored East Palestine’s other touchdown with the 1-yard return of a fumble recovery.
Tyler Reed led the Tigers (1-1) with 33 yards on 11 carries.
McDonald 35, Oberlin 6
McDonald
Nick Rota scored two touchdowns for McDonald, one on a 25 yard run and the other on a 59 yard pass from Matthia Tayalla to roll past Oberlin. Nick Rota finished with 33 yards on the ground and 105 yards receiving. Justin Rota had two catches on the night, one being a 56 yard touchdown. Tayalla finished with four completions for 166 yards. Stephen Mohamed and Kenny Ross scored the other two touchdowns for McDonald, from 22 and 17 yards respectively.
Rootstown 33, Jackson-Milton 0
ROOTSTOWN
Corey Padrutt ran for three touchdowns to lead Rootstown (2-0), which rolled up 313 yards on the ground.
Jackson-Milton (0-2) couldn’t muster anything offensively, rushing for 25 yards and losing two fumbles.
Southern 33, Lisbon 6
SALINEVILLE
Southern Local’s Jake Boyle ran for 26 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Indians past Lisbon.
Zac Puckett led all rushers with 85 yards and scored Southern’s first touchdown.
Josh Melhorn scored from 3 yards out for the Indians then Boyle scored from 1 and 21 yards giving Southern a 27-0 lead.
Lisbon’s Josh Cook connected on a 9-yard pass to Brad Cox to open the third.
Western Reserve 13, Independence 12
BERLIN CENTER
Quarterback Jeff Clegg had 181 passing yards and two touchdowns for Western Reserve (2-0). Independence scored with 5:27 left, but failed on a two-point conversion attempt.
