Sometimes, even when a team does well it’s not rewarded.

For example A, see Boardman. All the Spartans (5-2) did last weekend was wallop Massillon Jackson, 41-6.

But, because two other teams in Division I, Region 1, defeated opponents with better records, they leapfrogged Boardman in this week’s OHSAA football computer ratings, sliding the Spartans to eighth place.

The good news for Boardman, though, is that they finish with three teams with decent to outstanding records, and a sweep would ensure a playoff spot.

One of those teams, Austintown Fitch (7-0), remained No. 3 in Region 1, while Warren Harding (5-2), despite losing to Mentor, remained at No. 11.

Most of the 17 teams in this week’s ratings stayed in the same position as before.

In Div. II, Howland (7-0) moved up one spot to No. 3 in Region 5 after its 20-18 win over Poland (4-3), which slid to No. 7 in Div. III, Region 9.

Also in Region 9, Hubbard (5-2) moved up three spots to No. 3, as did Cardinal Mooney (4-2), to No. 4, while Southeast (4-3) improved one spot to No. 10.

In Region 11, East Liverpool (6-1) stayed at No. 3 and Salem (6-1) jumped one spot to No. 5.

In Div. V, Region 17, Ursuline (7-0) took over the No. 1 spot, while Crestview (3), South Range (6), United (8) and Brookfield (11) all stayed the same.

Crestview (6-1) plays host to South Range (6-1) on Friday night.

In Div. VI, Region 21, Western Reserve (7-0) stayed at No. 2, while McDonald (5-2) jumped two places to 10th, and Mathews (4-3) stayed at No. 11. Also in Div. VI, Southern (6-1) stayed No. 8 in Region 23.

In Div. IV, Region 13, Campbell Memorial (6-1) improved one spot, to No. 4, while Girard (5-2) moved up one spot to 10th, and Lakeview (5-2) fell from ninth to 11th, and Champion (4-3) fell out of the top 12.
