McDonald @ Western Reserve
Staff report
Ursuline High completed its 10-0 regular season with a victory over Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary, and assured the Fighting Irish would win the Associated Press Division V football poll.
The final poll of the season was announced on Monday, and Ursuline — which also won the poll championship in 2008 — was one of six area schools to receive enough votes to merit mention.
The Irish will play South Range (7-3) in a first-round playoff game on Saturday night at Stambaugh Stadium.
Howland (10-0) was the next-highest ranked team, at No. 7 in Div. II. The Tigers will play at unranked Copley (9-1) on Friday night in the playoffs.
In Div. I, Austintown Fitch (9-1) finished in the No. 9 position. The Falcons, who won the outright Federal League championship with a 25-7 win over Boardman, will play host to unranked Willoughby South on Saturday at 7 p.m.
East Liverpool (8-2), despite losing to Salem 36-6 last Friday, finished No. 10 in Div. III. The Potters play host to No. 14 Newark Licking Valley on Saturday.
In Div. VI, Western Reserve (9-1) finished No. 13. The Blue Devils play host to unranked McDonald on Friday night in a rematch of their Week 9 showdown, won by McDonald 15-13.
In Div. IV, Campbell Memorial (9-1) finished No. 15. The Red Devils play at Martins Ferry, ranked No. 14, Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Cleveland Glenville (I), Columbus Marion-Franklin (II), Marlington (III), Clarksville Clinton-Massie (IV) and Delphos St. John’s (VI) were the other first-place teams.
