Mooney pulls past Pickerington North

PICKERINGTON

Roosevelt Griffin carried 13 times for 79 yards and a touchdown to lead a balanced Mooney attack as the Cardinals pulled away from Pickerington North 31-14 on Friday.

Clarence Scott ran six times for 74 yards and Carmen Leonelli added 10 carries for 57 yards as the defending Division III state champions rolled up 275 yards on the ground on 43 carries. Mooney’s defense held the Panthers to just 68 yards rushing on 23 carries.

Kevin McGuire added two TD runs and A.J. Fox kicked a 22-yard field goal and four extra points.

Zach Olszewski ran for one touchdown and threw for another for North, which was a Division I playoff team last year. Olszewski finished 13 of 23 for 130 yards.

Warren Harding 29, E. Cle. Shaw 26

WARREN

Mikhail Seawood carried 17 times for 206 yards and three TDs to lead Harding.

Seawood’s 4-yard TD run with 6:14 left in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference in a rematch of last year’s opener, which ended in a tie.

Seawood also completed 6 of 14 passes for 84 yards, while Jimmy May had an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Robert Small ran for 88 yards and threw for 194 to lead Shaw.

Southeast 48, West Branch 26

Beloit

Damian Pennington scored three touchdowns to lead the Pirates.

Pennington’s first score was a 95-yard kickoff return. He later rushed for a score and received a 40-yard pass in the first half. Noah Kainrad had 12 completions for 238 yards and three touchdowns for Southeast (1-0).

Leading the Warriors was Troy James, who rushed for 105 yards and scored twice, while Brenden Wells ran for 63 yards and scored two touchdowns.
