Canfield’s four turnovers proved to be costly in a 24-19 loss to the Aurora Greenmen on Friday night

Two fumbles and a 53-yard interception return for a touchdown by Aurora’s Ryan Wells early in the fourth quarter put the game out of reach for the Cardinals.

Canfield quarterback Jordan Italiano completed 6 of 13 passes for 60 yards and one touchdown, a 28-yarder to Blake Jackson.

Drake Kopp came in to complete 7 of 9 for 59 yards, passing for a touchdown of 7 yards to Joe Tuchek.

Jackson led all receivers with six catches for 59 yards.

Canfield outgained Aurora 260-228 in total yards.

Blake Calcei and Jake Smierciak combined on 7 of 14 passing for the Greenmen.

Salem 28, LaBrae 21

Leavittsburg

Down 14 points in the fourth quarter, Quakers quarterback Trent Toothman put the game on his shoulder and the team on his back.

Toothman led the Quakers (1-0) to 14 unanswered points, both of which were runs by the senior. When the extra point attempt failed on the team’s third touchdown, Toothman ran in the two-point conversion on the next try.

He finished with 141 yards rushing, and another 162 passing.

Champion 45, Edgewood 13

ASHTABULA

Travis Damron rushed 10 times for 117 yards and two TDs to lead Champion, which outscored Edgewood 32-0 over the second and third quarters.

Jim Rasey added 113 yards on 18 carries as the Flashes rolled up 327 yards on the ground.

Shane Brown completed 5 of 8 passes for 186 yards and a TD to Nathan Vesey, who caught two passes for 117 yards.

Devin McCaleb ran 17 times for 89 yards and a TD to lead Edgewood.

Niles 11 Cleveland John Adams 8, OT

NILES

Justin Evans kicked a 29-yard field goal in the first session of overtime to lift the Red Dragons past visiting Cleveland John Adams.

Cleveland John Adams was first to score late in the third by a Tevin Griffin 51 yard touchdown pass to Jamon Williams Jr. Niles was able to answer in the following drive on a Zack Bailey two yard run. Bailey ended the game with 67 yards on the ground, and went 10 of 17 for 110 yards.
