Poland, Ursuline stay atop AP Poll


The Bulldogs (Div. III) and the Irish (Div. V) have both started 6-0.

Ursuline and Poland remained in first place in their respective divisions in the fourth Associated Press high school football poll, released Monday.

Ursuline (6-0), which plays at Canton Central Catholic (1-5) Friday night, received 20 first-place votes and 251 points in Division V. Archbold (6-0) moved up to No. 2, replacing Hamler Patrik Henry (6-0), which fell to third.

Maria Stein Marion Local and Findlay Liberty-Benton stayed put to round out the top five.

In Div. III, Poland (6-0) received 14 first-place votes and 250 points to lead No. 2 St. Mary’s Memorial (6-0) by 44 points. The Bulldogs play host to Howland Friday night in an All American Conference Red Division game.

Thornville Sheridan, Tipp City Tippecanoe and Liberty (6-0) rounded out the top five. The Leopards visit Lakeview Friday.

McDonald (6-0) and Western Reserve (6-0) both moved up in Div. VI. McDonald, which visits Western Reserve Friday night, moved up from ninth to a tie for seventh with Malvern.

Western Reserve moved up from No. 12 to No. 11.

Bascom Hopewell-Loudon, Mechanicsburg, Mogadore, Norwalk St. Paul and Ada were ranked 1-5 in the small school division.

Cardinal Mooney (5-1) fell one spot to fourth in Div. IV, trailing Coldwater, Steubenville and Fostoria. The Cardinals, who play host to Cleveland Benedictine Friday, are one spot ahead of Kettering Alter.

Boardman (5-1) fell out of the top 10 in Div. I after losing to North Canton Hoover, 20-9.

Cincinnati Colerain, Cleveland Glenville, Pickerington Central, Hilliard Davidson and Dublin Coffman were ranked in the top five in the big school division.

In Div. II, the top five teams, unchanged from last week, are Columbus DeSales, Louisville, Toledo Central Catholic, Logan and Cincinnati Turpin.
